Only the ones that are their bread and butter. See how the rest of the dinobot team was not even an issue to fight over...just Grimlock. So don't touch OP, Bumblebee, and Megatron.

I think this is less of a Grinder issue and more of a g1 Grinder head issue. Grinder is a different figure than their Grimlock..but then the add on head came that makes it pretty damn close to looking like MP 08. I think the two taken together is where Hasbro cried foul.

As long as you beat HasTak to the market I think they turn a blind eye. Bring out a product that looks very similar to one that they've put out and creates competition HasTak sends out the C&D.

If that really happens, then, FansToys really screwed it at first at making that original head.

... ... oooor the fans did when they insisted Fans Toys "correct" the head with a more G1 faithful sculpt.

Fans wanted it and FT obliged.

Then the fans have the fault (?

I don't care as long nothing happens to FT.

Wouldn't that be awesomely ironic... The fans demanding G1 faithfulness creating the first crack in FT's shell and the online retailers that carry them.

Of course, that would be dependent upon me actually believing anyone was issued a cease and desist.

How many dinobots have been made now? But it was an add-on headsculpt that generated legal action?

On the outside looking in... if I were HasTak, I'd actually subcontract some lines to the Third Parties and get a cut of that action, while getting them in on more of the costs. Say give one studio G1 Masterpiece, another Bayverse Masterpiece, Combiners to another specialist... and maybe a No Compete clause that says they agree not to do a version of any given specific figure until five years after HasTak have done theirs.

Even if HasTak were willing to go along with this I don't think it would work out. The whole reason why the third party market is so vibrant these days is precisely because of all the cutthroat competition and all these companies trying to one-up and undercut each other, with the consumer as the ultimate beneficiary. If it was instead a matter of managed licenses with companies not stepping on each other's toes, it really wouldn't be any different than if HasTak made everything themselves.

If they wanted to shut these guys down they would have a long time ago. This stuff is free R&D and free research into what sells. Additionally, they Has/Tak, needs to do their own Dinobots and a new Grimlock

My thoughts are people are right in thinking HasTak has seen increased interest in the MP market specifically because of third party growth. As others have stated we're finally getting our ranks filled out. It keeps the interest in the collection as a whole.
This definitely just seems like a case of Hasbro saying they think they might be pushing their luck just a little bit. I've always thought the season three bots was where it would start to get more challenging for third party. Season one and two were largely based on real cars where season three is actually standalone Hastak designs.

Where did all this originate? I asked Brandon with TCP. He said this is bunch of crap. Not true as far as he knows well for US retailers

Red Leader (Kapow) also chimed in on the Grinder page:

And his response about the original statement that the heads were stuck in customs:

Debatably, they made an add-on to have MP-08 fit their other four Dibots.

Damn, glad I got Grinder with the new head as well.
Now to hope Terminus etc. are not affected by this.... Would suck badly to have a limbless Terminus on the table :D
