    Ebay:
I know there was a thread dealing with this (so I'm sure I'll get a few "not this again" replies) but a few of us have received emails from Kapow regarding the FT Grinder replacement head.

"We are no longer able to supply the item Fans Toys FT-06 Grinder Dino Head or Grinder related products due to a claim of copyright infringement against the manufacturer FansToys."

So it seems that Grinder is the toy that has landed them in hot water. Whether this is just down to similarities with MP Grimlock or is a wider legal challenge I don't know, but I thought it good to have a fact thrown into all the recent speculation.

Mods, please merge or delete if not appropriate for its own thread.

And the price of the Grinder head just jumped to $68.99 on Ebay. Needless to say there probably won't be a reissue for a while after this.

HasTak should take cues from the 3rd party market and increase production of their MP figures. The market is clearly there and relevant if they feel the need to bully suppliers into shutting down supply of 3rd party figures.

Why would they do that if they can:
    1. Just increase prices?
    2. Reuse the same mold again and again.
    3. Send cease and desist letter anytime they want.

Will the fans stop buying? Nah. It's business as usual. In fact, it's all deemed to be "genius".

I wish they would do nothing but MP's, I really do (that would put certain 3P companies out of business though) but in their defense, Takara does not only do TF's. Unlike 3P they make other toys.

I figured this might happen sooner or later when Hoodlum was announced, and could be a reason there's been so little news on him too. I think the question is more about how much Hastak can actually do about it apart from rattle a few US/EU based retailers. I'm guessing not a lot.

In Hastak's defence, they've been hugely patient with what is essentially MANY companies cashing in on their own intellectual property. They know most of these companies are fan driven, and they know that it can help fuel collectors passion in the whole property. A lot will buy 3rd party while waiting on official release.

Some of these companies are getting pretty big though and getting their own die-hard followings. No matter if it's an improvement or not, Hoodlum seemed a little too much like "biting the hand that feeds you". FT wanted to directly compete against Hastaks own offering and were confident enough in their own reputation that they could drive sales away from them.

They could virtually kill the US market by sending C&D to the major online retailers. It would certainly cause stores like BBTS and TFSource to reevaluate their priorities. A place like TCP might be able to let Hasbro products go and just sell 3rd party, though may not be able to handle a legal battle if Hasbro decided to actually take it to court.

If HasTak had made an MP Gridlock was was in correct scale and, you know, GOOD to begin with...

I'm fine with Grinder's existing head/jaw and Hasbro can blow it out their tailpipe.
