As soon as I get him in hand, I’m unscrewing the problematic screws on both sides and sanding down the upper half of the threads that are causing the problem. That should allow them to still screw tightly into the chest plates while alleviating the problem where the metal armature gets stuck. Should be an easy fix.

My only guess as to why it was designed like that in the first place is maybe the threads were meant to automatically shift the chest piece down while it was rotated? It seems as though the angle of the threads is too small for it to work like that though.

I wonder if they were the right way around maybe it isnt meant to slide and it would stay on the non threaded part of the screw

Even if they were supposed to be switched, the bar would still be rotating around threads, meaning that it would continuously screw in and out when rotated. Because of this, I doubt that the design would work well in any orientation unfortunately. As per my post above, the only thing that makes sense to me is that the screw was meant to automatically shift the chest back and forth when rotated, but even when switched, I don’t think the threads would provide the needed distance to swing up around the raised chest.

You bring up a good point though and it does make me wonder if that diecast piece has molding inside that would interact with the threads of the screw if swapped around...

Mine just arrived from TCP in the mail. I need to read back about some problem with pin and screw? Are all figs wrong or only some? Is there a good place or video to see the problem/fix?

I'm talking about the die cast parts being on the wrong sides. It looks like it would mean pushing the pin out from here (pink) to be able to do that? Like I said, I don't have mine yet so it's hard to know for sure. I imagine the L hand die cast piece matching the L hand Plastic part... I'm not sure how that would stop the design from working?

I think I'm going to start buying 2 copies of everything just to help at least one other person out for @ retail price and take something away from the scalpers.

Im sure that it is assembled correctly even if the L and Rs are a bit confusing. With the exception of the things sliding freely they work just fine - samue1 is quite correct that filing down the thread part would work. I have to say tho, that my copy slides much better than paiks appeared to, and is getting easier as i play with it.
I find just jiggling the sliders a bit works.
There is one key point to this mechanism - the chest pieces must be in the forward position to get over the belly or it will stress (the sliders wont always work freely to do this for you), but must be all the way back to tab in (you can see when it lines up) - and when going back to robot you must just untab but move no further outwards before jiggling the sliders to slide the chest pieces forward.

I posted this a day or so ago. I hope its allowed to repost your own posts for this purpose.

    Second transformation cycle for me.

Other than the train chimney/exhaust, no other parts fell off.

Pegging the train cabin/backpack on for alt mode was a complete nightmare. I can't even tell what I am doing right; it just clicks on after 15 minutes of fiddling.

Chest panels with stripped screws are just damage waiting to happen. Both screws had wiggled out when I unclipped it all to go back to robot mode. That really should have been a pinned part.

In some ways it reminds me a lot of Maverick and Roadking [and by extension, Jabber as well]. Lots of parts on metal hinges and armatures. Any of the modes is solid, but the in-betweens can leave you with lots of pieces jangling about until everything is tabbed in.

As long as the damn thing is in robot mode and I can throw in on the shelf I'm happy. It could have a third arm in there, I'd never know. :p

I usually do just this, as I like to have both bot and alt mode displayed... but if I don’t love the release, sell one at non @$$ rape pricing.
