Yep, i just started to do it.
That's why my second Maverick came.
I'll be selling him when he hits 500. hahaha

Other figures from FT i have 1 of them from the ones i want.
I still want a normal Soar, because i have the X version.
And the rest of the dino's in X version to. :D
Didn't really want the headmasters, so i missed Lupus.
Also didn't want anything else when i started except for the dino's and Prime and Bee.
So i missed the insects, spotter, Perceptor ( thank god v2 is coming ) and lots of other bots like s3 autobots.

    These are my FT figures.

I usually keep 3p boxes if they actually have artwork on them. If its something like a boring cardboard box I just chuck it into recycling.

I pitch almost everything except TT, FT, and newage. TT and Newage because I just love their look and FT due to value of the bots. Going to think pretty hard about my Stomp box now. $100 for a piece of cardboard and styrofoam is kind of hard to look past...

I keep all of my MP boxes, even the KOs. I used to move a lot and I always found the original boxes to be the best way to pack up my figures so they don't get damaged during moving. But we're pretty stable now and, even if we did decide to move, those boxes would take up so much space that it doesn't seem worth it anymore. Not when I can just wrap them in tissue and stuff a bunch of them in a single box of styrofoam peanuts.

I think it's dumb to pay for boxes but, if I decide to get rid of them anyway, I may as well see if anybody wants to buy them. I definitely wouldn't charge $150 for a box though. Maybe $40 or $50 at most - enough to make it worth the time and effort of listing, packing, and shipping them. I'd make sure the listings were super clear though. "BOX ONLY" in all caps at the beginning and end of the title and again in the description.

I bought a 1950 small house and have no room for boxes now. When we moved I wrapped each bot in t-shirts and put them in totes. Nothing was damaged thankfully. A friend of mine was scammed on ebay. Was just a box. Looked sealed and description said "comes with everything you see here."

You can call it what you want, but if I have supply of something I don't need and there is demand for that supply...then why not? I have a wife and kids, I have a mortgage, and I have a completely unnecessary hobby that brings me some joy and satisfaction. I feel I kind of owe it to myself and my family to help pay for this hobby outside of my salary if possible. So, if I can make a $100 on a box collecting dust...I'm probably going to check it out.

Sometimes if the boxes are cool enough I display them too, I usually do that with my 1:6 scale stuff and some KFC/ GT / TFM boxes.

I don't own anything from DX9, but their boxes are worth displaying.

I'm sure that a lot of people who jump in and buy the 'box only' stuff off of ebay kind of screwed themselves by just seeing the picture, and not really reading the description. Their excitement caused them to overlook the small print that says, box only.

And once they realize their mistake after the fact, embarrassment and regret seeps in. It's like those sales ads and coupons in grocery/department stores. People get all happy about getting something, but then the check out clerk points out that it's not valid due to the easy to miss fine details printed on the coupon, haha.

Ebay used to ban the practice of sellers that try to sell empty boxes of things, like game consoles, gadgets, jewelry. Because it can be misleading to a lot of buyers. And probably a lot of people want to buy the legit packaging, to help them sell their own counterfeit items by combining the two together.
Ebay has since reversed the ban a few years ago.

Having bought 2 of their Stunticons, can confirm, I display their boxes. Hope their artist gets paid well, cause he (or she) knows how to make boxes.

Yeah, that's why, if I decided to sell boxes, I'd be super clear with big letters that it's just the box. Make sure there's no chance for a misunderstanding.

I was randomly watching a Scotia vs Cesium video the other day, which inspired me to look for any that are on sale, and I only came across a Scoria box going for $60. I thought about it because I bought my Scoria without box (it had been used as a display/advertising item apparently, was the last one left and had no box), and it would satisfy my need for completion (I have kept all my boxes for my other figures, too). But in the end, paying that sort of money for a bit of cardboard and plastic clamshell just doesn't seem worth it to me.
When you factor in shipping and "additional costs" (whatever the heck that is supposed to be), I could buy a whole new figure. So, no.

Since I started reducing my collection last month, I've been super glad I kept most of the boxes. The one set I tossed the boxes on were the Yes Model Coneheads, thinking I'd never sell them. Now I kind of wish I still had the boxes or at least the inserts, if just for extra protection when shipping them.
I kept all the boxes inside giant Ziploc sealed totes in a spare closet and it's nice getting some of that space back too!

I would agree that wholesale price is close to pre-order price, but both are nowhere near MSRP.

Take FT-41 Sheridan. If I'm not wrong, the MSRP is 550 yuan (US$78). Pre-order price is 420 yuan (US$60).

It was noted in the TaoBao thread that the original pre-order price was 390 yuan (US$55), so yes, FansToys raised their price by $5.

We'll know the truth once FT-44 is released in China.

Yeah, but I'd never sell my figures. My collection is too important to me and I don't have any real collections outside of TFs (just a smattering of other toys) so I can't see myself ever needing the space or anything.

Cancelled my preorder at Chosen prime, maybe they will add 1 more for someone else. I had a long thought about my collection and I've decided that I'm going to keep it to just Bay-verse and Beastwars. I also cancelled a $243 Zeta Unicron preorder at ShowZ. With the shipping increases and product just getting stuck in china (I have an MP ROTF Megatron stuck in china) I'm not sure what will happen to my collecting during this. God forbid I have to buy a chug or two.

@nhyone I've added a phase (bold CAPS) for clarification since I think your response that follows here might have mistaken my comment as relating to the prices China market sellers pay. I'm exclusively talking about NA retailers.
Correct, but the distance between the wholesale price NA retailers were to pay for Berserk and Berserk's pre-order aka retail price, is nearly the same distance as between the price NA retailers are currently slated to pay for Thomas and Thomas's retail price. This shows that NA retailers are not marketing up Thomas significantly more percentage-wise than Berserk, it is the underlying acquisition cost from FT that has gone up for them. Which is also what necessitates them then raising the retail price to maintain their margin.
All of my comments were in relation to what NA retailers pay and what they list the products for in turn. Sheridan's "wholesale" price from FT, which includes their freight charge, as a percentage of the MSRP is nearly identical with Thomas and Berserk.
Those numbers you're quoting ($55 and $60) may be China market prices but they're lower than Sheridan's acquisition cost for NA retailers.
You might learn more about the prices for the China market but it won't change what NA retailers are already set to pay FT for Thomas.
