ShowZ's deposits are also only like $1-2, so it's more like an accounting quirk for them.

Anybody actually asking for a significant deposit is doing so to make sure you're secured as a buyer, because it's trouble for them if you back out.

So why, after ~10 years in the business, are they still unaware of solid matter's inability to pass through other solid matter?

I currently see a gigapower Dinobot with a $20 deposit on their site. We can play the usually game all we want, both sites usually have little to no deposits but then have higher deposits for more valuable figures.
Then can we put BBTS as an outlier because they almost never ship anything that’s on preorder?

I think we just chock up ShowZ as an outlier on most of those matters. They also put up orders and take money on things that aren't guaranteed for sale yet. They're not a great indicator of standard business practices.

I can't believe this is ACTUALLY happening

Don't mess this up FT. Take your time, release it however you have to. I absolutely need a four foot tall Fort Max in my collection room. I don't think anything could beat that as a centerpiece

I have cancelled 50 dollar deposits at Show.Z and still got my money back. Unless they specifically mention on the product page that you can't get your money back, you can always get either points or complete refund.

Yeah, very cool, but for that price it should at least include a Sunbow Cerebros. And that Headmaster unit articulation... Come one, it's very poor for today standards.

Yep, exactly why I find it silly people always say it should be obvious deposits aren’t refundable. Clearly some retailers can handle having to give money back.

This is a dream figure for me. I always wanted just a Fortress head figure. I don\'t have the money or for a while Maximus. I\'ve never dabbled in 3rd party figures but I am extremely tempted. I know there\'s no price but what is a ball park estimate for a figure like this? I am correct in thinking it is only the head and not a sneak peak at a part of a full Fortress Maximus toy? In other words I am looking at a final product?

As I said, ShowZ is not the best indicator of standard business practices.

The purpose of a pre-order deposit (different from the security deposit, which is essentially just a holding for insurance) is to make it undesireable to reneg on your commitment.

If they're freely refunding deposits, then it's not really much different from no-commitment pre-orders through deferred payment sites like BBTS. Except that you've just handed them a small advance loan, more or less.

Well it’s Fanstoys (a 3rd party known for sky rocketing prices recently for all their figures) so it’s apparently going to be going for $200-$250

$200 for just that? 350 doesn't sounds that bad for DotM Megatron...

They are just used to having American retailers not allowing a refund that they got Stockholm Syndrome.

In my country we have our own local version of TF-Source and they always charge the full price as deposit when you preorder, but you can cancel and get a full refund at any time. That's why I only buy from them and Show.Z. I don't like stores that think they can just claim my money because my situation changed and I need to cancel an order. It's shitty service.

They haven't made a good version of much anything in a long time. Time to leave the transforming robots to the professionals.

Larger-scale retailers can absorb the costs of small and infrequent transactional shortfalls, and will probably have a dedicated accountant on board or at least some expensive software to track all the comings and goings.

Small, single-person outfits and such are more likely to be strict about their transactions, simply because people waffling makes it very difficult for them to do their business.

Oh... that’s unfortunate. Very much appreciate the information. Thanks.

They are non-refundable if the site states them as such.

Good luck getting it back at certain sites other than a one-time courtesy if they feel like it.

Prepare for a $250+ NRD when the body is put up for PO.

No way in hell that's not happening.
