NB: Haven't really watched the trailer more than in passing, and am, again, not a plane guy but Google says the new trailer has F/A-18's not F-14's. That's a relief.

 

Too bad the alt-mode is still a robot under a jet   I wonder if they did that on purpose or maybe they couldn't design the alt-mode well...

 

The cost of toon accuracy. Dont get me wrong it's toy accurate as well so I'm definitely on board.

 

I know this is a perpetually difficult to grasp, but true mass-shifting still isn't an option for transforming robot figures. As such, if you want the jet part to look reasonably proportioned, you're going to have baggage under the wings. At least it's true to the source material.

The Aerialbots to end all Aerialbots.

 

Just a heads up, Google is lying then. The trailer does indeed have both aircraft extremely visible. I’m sure the Hornet will be the primary aircraft, but the Tomcat is far from dead in the trailer.

Now, as for Iceman here ... oh sweet mama! This set just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to see the whole team lined up. I’m not even sure I’m going to be able combine them for display, they may stay as singles on the shelf when all’s said and done.

 

Looks great in bot mode

but the alt mode not so much unfortunately, and reason is not just the box under the jet, but if they could have a bit more black on the sides somehow, that would have been better, to close the jet mode and better separate the black vs red/white pieces.

Goose and Maverick jet modes are fantastic though, well, especially Maverick.

Still, this is top priority, will have to angle Ice Man if in jet mode.

I am starting to think maybe the Stunticons will be better than the Aerialbots for Bot / Alt ratio for all 5 members... Well, maybe the final 2 aerialbots will be the best along with Maverick for jet modes, same as Zeta.

Dont think i can do both Aerialbots and Stunticons and Blitzwing and Astrotrain, jut too much money and i dont have enough older toys to sell for all of them, but priority goes to Aerialbots and Blitzwing, then the yellow formula 1, then Astrotrain.

 

@dalianjj some parts look off-white. Is it safe to say he will be all white same color as Maverick? Minus that he looks amazing *meow* cat ears as he should. F15 alt mode puts Hasbow's to shame.

If FT-30B follows the same pattern, it will drop in another ~6 months.

 

AFAIK it's Maverick that's not white---more of a pearlescent, silver-white. While this is "just plain white".

 

I'm torn on the undercarriage kibble. Yes it's toon accurate but it does really stand out. I'm primarily picking up FT's set for bot mode. I'm currently happy with Zeta's in combined mode - will have to see how FT's look in comparison.

But for Alt mode, I am seriously contemplating just keeping the JJ Commander KO of the combiner wars set I have.
I've tidied them up by removing heads and hands and some excess arm kibble, so the undercarriage blocks aren't that much different to what FT and Zeta have on theirs. And the topsides are actually pretty nice and surprisingly toon accurate. A decent coat of paint on top and they'll make fairly good alt mode jets. I originally bought them as temporary shelf-fillers, but they may end up being the best option for jet mode. Plus the cost of the full set was cheaper than a single FT arm-bot.
