Why is the name badly conceived when Lupus is Latin for 'wolf'?

That's it i think. Stomp for example represents a character with a fairly toy accurate animation model, and they turned out something rather polished.

Lupus, that character has a fairly toy accurate animation model too, but FT's offering here feels mottr like something adequate released to get the foot in the door before MT
offer something. If people are disappointed by it, it's probably because they know FT can do better.

I thought FT and MT had an agreement that only one company will produce Autobots while the other produced Decepticons.

I have no idea either way, but that sounds like an unfounded rumor.

I am well aware of the word's Latin etymology, but for those afflicted by the disease, perhaps a better moniker could've been conjured up ...

The people who complain about political correctness on the Megatronia EX thread should have a field day with this.

How dare this Chinese toy company not research the name of their transforming wolf themed robot that could potentially offend about 5 million people worldwide!
    Unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Care to organize a 3P boycott fueled by SJW outrage?

Hahaha ... the original context was my confusion as to why ppl were so lukewarm on Lupus; I merely reiterated what I had heard on these very same boards regarding the propriety of the name ... I myself am about as far away from PC culture as it can get ... I was the one who made a crass joke about the new MP Megatron and suicide by cop and promptly experienced the wrath of those you're complaining of ... I've tried to be a good boy since ...

It didn't even occur to me. I'm looking at a wolf and it's called 'Lupus". Being upset that that's also a disease is a little like going to the produce section of the grocery store and getting confused by a fruit being named after a computer company.

I'm cool with Lupus. I think fits offering is fine. Maybe it's because I wasn't super crazy about the figure to begin with and just organized group pricing for it because a bunch of folks asked, but once I got it in hand, I thought it was very well made and on par with the rest of ft bots. Sure the articulation is a bit limited but he's also a cheaper bot I think so I don't mind the trade off.

Not sure about mind wipe. Just looks like a block with wings and a dinky head. Lol...

Yessir. Introduced in as a figure 1987 just after the Sunbow/MP cartoon ended.

    Fom Wikipedia:
Crystal Ball is Cobra's hypnotist, and was first released as an action figure in 1987.[1] He is the seventh son of a seventh son, born of a Romanian father (who supposedly had "second sight"), and an American mother from Bangor, Maine. Legend indicates seventh sons of seventh sons have telepathic powers. Whether this is true or not, Crystal Ball can reportedly sometimes read minds, and has been used as an interrogator of captured Joes.[20]

Crystal Ball claims that the origins of his talents stem from the dark and mysterious power of the occult. Independent research by Psyche-Out uncovered another possible origin, tied to a theatrical hypnotist known as "Trance-Master", who operated as an encyclopedia salesman in Maine, before traveling abroad to gain new knowledge of hypnotic techniques. An unnatural spike in encyclopedia sales, combined with his sudden disappearance from the lecture circuit, corresponded with the appearance of Crystal Ball as part of Cobra. Whatever his true past, Crystal Ball has proven to be an effective Cobra agent, helping Doctor Mindbender to modify the Brainwave Scanner, and using his unusual talents to bend the will of Cobra prisoners."

Crystal Ball's only Sunbow/Marvel Productions animated appearance was a brief one for GI Joe comics commercial for issue #65

I certainly hope not! Any company should be free to make whatever character they or fans want.

I would certainly understand people getting upset if a toy was named after an offending name for a disease or something and it was obviously intended as a very stupid joke.
Not that that is ever likely to happen mind :lol

Yep. Basically Mindwipe is to the Decepticons what Crystal Ball is to Cobra. Both characters were introduced in 1987.
