The new pics from Hobby Free could also possibly show shoulders lower down... it’s hard to say given the angle and pose. Hoodlum does have very long arms though and I think with the shoulders in a lower position that could seem worse. But his overall torso and leg proportions are so much better than MP-28’s.
Not sure about the face on these new pics though? Seems a little off. Hoping it’s just bad photography. Hoodlum will be my bot mode Hot Rod and Takara’s will be relegated to an alt mode display.

They both look like decent figures. I'd probably give the nod to Fanstoys for overall bot look, but if the transformation is anything like their Kup or Arcee then I'll happily stick with Takara. Hopefully not.

Hot Rod isn't a must have character for me (I'm even using Dx9 Carry as my Rodimus Prime since I hate MP-09 and just like the look of Carry more) since I kind of hated him for a reason that shall be left unnamed. ;)  I did pick up the KO of the Takara though just to fill a hole in my "movie leaders" collection.

That said, surprisingly I'm considering dropping the higher $ on this for some reason...

I keep waffling on replacing my MP-28. More than likely, I'll have to watch half a dozen review videos when they come out before I make the final call lol

It’s like FT knew MP-28 was such a sub-par figure, they could wing it in certain aspects and then just say “hey fuck it, still better than TT’s, right?” ... kinda blows, esp w/this long a wait ...

Anyone have any idea what those little tabs are for on Hoodlum's shoulders?

I would assume to keep the front fenders attached to the front end? That is my guess. I am sure a test shot showed the vehicle mode wasn't stable enough.

I just wish FT shoulder tops weren't so high.

Not keen on the super high shoulders, that's more of a Rodimus thing isn't it? Is that adjustable? Everything else destroys Takara though imo. Wtf were they thinking when designing that thing....I wonder how different it would have been without the chest gimmick.

    Edit -

They must be adjustable, they look lower here and infinitely better:

I could be wrong, but I thought it was confirmed the are adjustable.

I don't understand how you can say this destroys Takara when it looks as similar to MP28 as it does..three years later. To me it looks worse even. In fact, I was so utterly disappointed by this redesign that I rushed out and got MP40 instead.

I wish they had sticked to the original design; it was the first FT reveal to really capture my attention, but ofcourse nobody liked it...hmm wait, maybe I should have posted this in the unpopular opinion thread? :D

TT has a better car mode IMO but the bot is best described as a kid wearing his dad's sweatshirt or someone wearing a box to comic-con with flames on it pretending to be Hot Rod. (Those are both someone else's quotes from this board but they're dead on and always stuck with me about this one.)

The rumor that's been circulating is that they are adjustable. This is based on two pictures posted about a month ago that clearly show the shoulders at two different heights and a close inspection of the should joint that seems to maybe indicate that movement in a vertical direction would be possible.

My bigger concern is the chest. We aren't getting a lot of pictures from the side and from what I can see it looks gappy as hell with a number of layers stuffed in there.

Yeah and MP28 is 100x times the figure MP40 is. Has its issues but at least it looks the part. FT looks way better than TT.

Admittedly, I mainly pulled the trigger on MP40 because he was on clearance. But I'm not looking for an argument.

The pegs in his shoulder "vents" that got added in are definitely an eyesore.
I'm also a big fan of the articulation on TT's Hot Rod, and I don't know that FT will match or surpass it.
Plus the car is way better, and that's a cool car.
That said, I like the overall look of Hoodlum's robot mode better, but does that make it a better toy? Nope. Not to me.
I will really have to have them both in hand and find out for myself which one I like better. Fun!

A real eyesore. Unacceptable. While this, on the other hand, is absolute PERFECTION!:
