He's got a hinge swivel neck design that is kind of odd. It is the design feature, across the board, not really an individual issue.

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong. Do you think that Fanstoys will reissue Scoria and Stomp?

Is there any way to secure Grinder's dinosaur head when in robot mode?

Didn't see any tabs or slots for it, and the head just flops around even after tightening the screw. It seems like an oversight on an otherwise well-designed figure.

I don't believe there is. It's not cartoon accurate, but you can swivel the dino arms inwards and have them "hug" the head for a little bit of support.

It helps if you have the G1 head. less mass to "hug"

Thank you for the reply. Tried the trick with the arms, but they are very loose and the hands keep popping off of them. So odd that an otherwise good design seems to have forgotten to secure the backpack-head.

Turning the head so the chin faces his back also helps.

Missed this question 1st time round but this is how the neck should sit in bot mode, if the actual neck is not sitting flat like this you have a problem.

Now, if the copy you have got is the re-issue its highly likely that its because the bot/dino head assembly is miss-assembled, this happened on the X versions for certain and I'm 99% certain on the re-issue as well, the net result being the neck would not sit flush in bot mode. FT had to send replacement parts to all the retailers, and you might be able to get them from FT still. I got impatient though and popped out the pins holding it all together and fixed it myself.

Edit, confirmed its on the re-issue too after going back to my posts in the soar thread. My pics are gone though sadly.

For mine, the black neck bracket sits flush but the head won't angle down and if I want him looking straight ahead, I have to lift the neck piece up. Should I force it? (I've been afraid to break it and have dealt with it for the last month.)

The neck assembly looks OK there, so it must be something else. I'd say pull the head off and have a look if there is anything preventing it from angling down.
Soars head is just on a ball peg so it should just pop right off.

Just got my Grinder and very impressed. First FanToys and won't be the last. Build quality if very high and as tight as anything I ever got from Hasbro or Tak.

I ordered the G1 head, as well and swapped it but almost thinking to swap back as it's much nicer in person than in the pictures and just looks fierce with that trex angry brow thing going on. Love the curved teeth. G1 is very nice, too and of course far more toon accurate.

Find myself wanting Stomp... though he appears sold out and considering Graviter as I like the longer neck a bit better...

Stomp is probably the best figure FT produced. I would try to get him.

Supposed to be a Stomp reissue this year, but I'd guess more towards the middle of the year or later with CNY, Phoenix-X, Combiners all lined up.

For reference, here's a picture I sent to Fans Toys when I received a misassembled FT-05XT. I think the misassembly only affected the "X" variation. You can ignore the text in the image.

The head sits on the ball peg @Orion2703 mentioned. You can pop it off to see if anything is affecting your range of motion.

Just for added info, if the common misassembly occurred, the assembly on the right is the correct assembly. Note that the longer side of the red piece beneath the head ball-pig is oriented to the bottom of the assembly. The assembly mistake is pointed out by the "Original mis-assembled piece" text in the image.

    Good luck!

A few poses of grinder i like to share through my samsung phone. Sorry i tried to edit my photo sideways, upside down and right up. Its still making my pictures look sideways. Seriously this website needs photo upload fixing. And i have read previous post. I am not taking pics sideways or try to upload from my pc when I have my convenience using my phone

My IPhone does that too. Just resize it a tiny bit or crop it or rotate it like 1 degree in the phone and then save it. ANY editing will cause the image to post correctly here. Took me a bit to figure it out :)
