Finally decided to test the waters with this set and ordered a Car Crash. I assume it'll be as fantastic as it looks and sounds.

Agreed. The first and only transforming toy I bought that actually failed to transform the first time without some kind of modification. That was quite amazing alright. From the looks of it, it's not even just some but a lot of them are.

 

Hey man, I wouldn't call that "win" when you spent 400 bucks on each combiner... ;-)

And by the way 2-3 month ago Green Giant was still on TFsource and BBTS at 355 with free shipping at TFSource! :-/

Love the set though. He is just superb! Best combiner to date...!!!

 

Not sure if im sold on this set. menasor looks alittle to small to me. if he were alittle bit bigger id be more willing to buy it. have to wait and see.

 

Got my Car Crash today. It's pretty much exactly what I was expecting, which is to say it's fantastic. No problems tabbing anything together for alt mode. The transformation in general seems very straightforward to me. I still think the price tag is too high for what it is, but I bought it and will buy the others so I have no right to complain about it.  

Also, sorry if this has been asked and answered a thousand times, but do we know why his waist extends?

 

I think it's mostly to help make transforming it easier. But it also could be for the still as-of-yet unconfirmed armmode.

 

Just got the first two today, and I love them. Articulation, transformation, build quality, aesthetics, all outstanding. I am reminded why FP are the third party kings. I decided to jump on this a little late in the game, but I'm SO glad that I did.

 

Hm, I only looked at him as a leg so I never thought of that.

I do have one slight nitpick with him, and that's the fist holes. I wish they were 5mm because I like swapping weapons around so much.

 

Possible that it's similar to the extending waist on cement mixer and wheel loader in Maketoys' Giant? They can do it so that the legs are even length - without the mixer is slightly longer than the loader, so he stands a little crooked. It bugged the heck out of me until I read about that.

 

We've seen the combined mode pix. The waist is not extended.

The waist extends to facilitate transformation from bot to vehicle. You need a little extra clearance to get the arms free and to set up the legs.

 

The extending waist is useful in arm mode, though.

But yeah, the most immediate use is for transformation. Otherwise, there's not enough clearance around the hands.
