He's fun! The same nice chunky sturdiness as FH Double Evil. I'm least impressed by the bird mode. Obviously, it was always going to look ridiculous, but that's a good thing as the original is ridiculous too. But various bits seem to rest in places in a kind of "oh, there will do" sort of way. The bot arms just live underneath, the bird shoulders just wander through a gap. It's possible I misread the instructions for the arms, as they seem to go through a sequence of several pictures to achieve something that can be done in a couple of movements.

Of the two versions, I'm glad I got the blue/green winged, as I prefer the truck mode to the bird. However, surely a mixture would have been possible. Imagine if all/most of the wings that are hidden in truck mode were purple. I think that would make most of the top side of the bird's wings purple. Hmm.

 

Ah I just realized the bird mode for mb-19 has no teeth. Not sure how I feel about this since the original toy and masterforce cartoon had him with teeth. I suppose it's more realistic, but we are talking about a transforming robo bird with a giant rocket and wheels on legs, I don't think realism was the goal. Without teeth, it makes the bird head appear less vicious and less detailed

 

My big issue with it too. That and the missing comb on top of the head. I always thought of the bird mode as a crazy toothed murder chicken. This is very “meh”… still, robot mode is excellent.

why didn't they do a color where 1 side of the wing is the purple and the other side is the green?
The wings rotate and it looks to me it would have given the figure correct colors in all modes.

PS I'm color blind so if it isn't purple or green, my bad

 

I think the way people pose the bird it would look bad with one side being green and other purple. I imagine people are going to pose it with swept back wings as much as people posing it with flapping down. I think the compromise isn't bad and if you must get 2 like me so you can have full purple wings all the time as bird!

 

not a dig at you but I did get 2 because I don't want to have to go digging through my storage to get proper colors when I randomly decided to flip a transformation.

In my mind, Both configurations, A and B, guarantee 1 mode looks wrong. while my proposed 2 colored wings gives the Car mode the correct color and the bird mode correct color from some angles. Still not perfect but seems like it would be a little better in my mind.

 

This has been adressed by Fans Hobby. It's because the POM plastic they use has poor adhesion to paint so large paint apps like that don't work.

Yes. Purple wings (makes back of truck purple) or green wings (truck is all green). Pick your poison.

I came thisclose to changing my preorder to the green wings (looks better in truck mode), but decided against it.

I'm off work today so I had a chance to open my other version and add some Toyhax to give them faction symbols.

They both have the same set of labels applied so they can be both configured in any mode correctly.

 

That explains it but I'm not sure it is a good excuse. I will live with my purple wings but I hope updated parts get released by them or somebody at some point.
