And people think I’m joking when I tell them to toss a quarter into the jar when they mention Bobby. This page alone is worth a few dollars and it’s not even done!

I guess the issue here isn't that it's mind bogglingly complex per se. It's just the nature of the character and what he transforms into doesn't seem to lend itself to such a convoluted transformation, particularly when you consider he's literally the datsun's minus the waist rotation.

I'll give you an example, could you imagine if someone released a Grimlock and this figure's transformation was as involved as MP-36's. You'd be thinking this is fucking ridiculous, you look at the nature of the character, previous iterations, how he transformed in the toon and it would seem unnecessary. Whereas Megatron you'll be more accepting of a complex transformation given what will be required to get both modes accurate to the toon. That's all.

I think the only way TT can give us a better Jazz is if they willing to give up the human alliance gimmick because making extra space in alt mode always compromises the bot mode.

Datsuns were simple because they were designed with lower budget and different standard.

If they were to be designed according to the new standard, they would have to achieve the following and all demands additional steps:

    1. Shrink the chest
    2. No hollow lower legs
    3. Articulation
    4. Door and possibly hood opening
    5. Hide the taillights on the toes
    6. Possible more extent retools from each other especially Smokescreen for toon accurate proportions

    Yep, and...:

He didn't hate it, but he was really disappointed with. I've been there with figures, and I'm sure most of us have. For me, that feeling is why I started to move away from mainline releases and focus on Masterpiece only initially: I'd get a figure, like it, but felt it was lacking or just disappointed.

Having said that, I've gotten back into mainline releases as, while they can still be a let down in areas, typically the transformations are fun - something the majority of any sort of Masterpieces typically lack.

I appreciate he does it cold, if I want a tutorial I watch Emgo. BSF gives me a realistic idea of transformation, I can definitely see some spots he if off on but when I transform it I'll be extra careful with those parts now. I know some reviewers break figures glue it back in place later so they can keep people interested in buying the figure cause they're sponsored. End of the day he's just another opinion.

This is a pretty well put explanation for transformation expectation. Obviously prowl, bluestreak, etc would have a more complex transformation if done today, but at the same time it shouldn't be anything too crazy.

Paik 4Life demonstration of the transformation was best, I watch his video and follow his steps and it was pretty smooth. I've transformed this a few times now it gets easier each time. Absolutely no paint chiping at all, TM-reviews wasn't Bad as well but found Paik 4Life transformation video work's Best for me

Pretty sure bobby mentions fairly often and acknowledges he's not the guy to watch for transformations. Plenty of times on his dummies show they've all ragged on him for being too rough and crap at transforming and it just seems to be a running joke these days, he even goes as far to namedrop emgo and Paik as the guys to go for transforming.

Honestly the people who seem to hate him are as funny as the people that love him. He's Decent entertainment, can't take him too literally in his reviews either way Imo.

Just watched Bobby Skullface's vid. FT Jazz looks exhausting. Just wildly over-engineered. I'm aware of Bobby Skullface's reputation for mishandling/mis-transforming figures. I watch enough of him and other reviewers to be able to tell when an issue is with the reviewer and when it's with the toy. This looks to be with the toy. It just doesn't look fun. Far too many bits folding into bits folding into bits, with tiny tabs folding out to accommodate and solidify. The opposite of elegant engineering. Such a shame. I like my Make Toys version well enough, but I always felt that while the upper half was well designed, the lower half was only a second draft. So I had high hopes that this might be the definitive version (though I do quite like both the New Age and Magic Square offerings at Legends-scale).

Sadly... his review resulted in another taste of DE-FEEEET... so to speak.

Yeah this guy should be fairly easy to transform if we are being honest with ourselves. The whole thing Folding in on itself with panels everywhere I can understand with the likes of ultra Magnus, kup and Arcee etc but not jazz. Jazz like you say should be as easy as the Datsuns.

Half an hour? Shit man. Teach me your shortcuts. I usually end up spinning like at least an hour and a half if not 2 or 3 even with emgo. I guess I am just a more patient BSF with less skill and smaller hands:oops:

Dude, you're insane. You're saying that folk posting TF videos are obligated to practice the transformation beforehand? Why? To ensure they are presenting the product in the best light? Well guess what - they're obligated to do precisely fuck all. These folks are doing this off their own backs and in their own time, and they can do it however they wish. The only obligation is on behalf of the viewer, who is obligated to decide who they do and do not watch.

If you want polished transformation videos, you've got a ton of options. If you want giddy optimism, you've again got options. If you want people who exclusively gush 'cos they fap over being on the samples list of manufacturers, you're spoilt for choice. BSF is none of these things. He's here for folks who can tolerate viewpoints that might diverge from their own, and for folks whose collectables must fit into their otherwise busy lives, as opposed to people whose lives have over time become squeezed into the gaps left around collecting and worrying about plastic toys.

Well, my tracking says the item hasn't been picked up yet by the courier, but this guy showed up at my doorstep today!

Have not transformed him yet, but first impressions so far... visually, immediately stunner me more than Downbeat (And I love Downbeat). The painted white and black just make it pop. As for sturdiness, I actually have some complaints here. His kibble doesn't lock in solidly everywhere (roof is just... there I guess), and it looks like the pinned joint that his right door folds in on is cracked on my copy, although it doesn't seem any looser than the one on the other side, so it may just be a mis-colored mold parting line?

Also getting immensely frustrated at trying to click his right thigh into place. No idea why it's so difficult but I recall some folks mentioning it earlier so I have to do research.

Transformation sounds a bit intense from the other comments, so I may just pose him tonight and jump into that tomorrow... I'm less gung-ho on hopping into these transformations after transforming Mirage with extra care and STILL ending up getting the missile scratched.

I recognize the piece has clearance issues before I even start tf’ing it. I recognize it’s painted all over and the two things = chipping….. on a figure that will live 99.9% of its life in bot mode.

but those toy inspired transformation Easter egg steps….c’mon mate. Gotta give that a go right

I don’t have a thing against BSF, but I feel if you’re going to review something, at least show you’ve spent some time with it before you just spew the first thing that comes out of your mouth. It’s like if a movie reviewer reviewed just the trailer and didn’t watch the whole movie and said the movie was shit based on a 2 minute sample. How could you take that kind of review seriously. BSF doesn’t sway my opinion at all because I watch him more for the entertainment value vs a trusted opinion.

Tried transforming Jive when I first got him, but it wasn't nearly as fun and intuitive as other recent FT releases so decided not to mess with it for the time being.

But now I've had a few drinks and my confidence (or lack of caring) is up and decided to give it another shot. Not as bad as I thought, but a few quirks.

Looking friggin' amazing in both modes. Makes me wish I had two. Which is saying something, because I love love love Downbeat!
