No one has found any undocumented weapon storage in bot mode, right?

 

@Jarrod noted it a couple of pages back. He also documented the modifications to correct the self-loosening ankle joint in subsequent posts.

 

That storage was for alt mode....I don't think he has any weapon storage for bot mode.

I don’t believe there’s weapon storage in bot mode. It would have been nice to be able to store at least one gun away in bot mode.

 

Just a heads up. The white tabs on the bottom of the chest are pretty thin. I snapped one on the 1st transformation, they probably should have been diecast.

 

Those tabs are incredibly frustrating. They're coming out of a thin piece of plastic, they are flared out at the end, and they are narrower at the base; that means you need to apply a non-trivial amount of force to get them to tab in, and it feels like they're gonna snap off the entire time. It's kind of awe-inspiring that even on a simple, straightforward, even intuitive transformation, Fans Toys can still introduce a sweat-inducing step.

 

Thanks to @Jarrod's advice, I was able to fix the loosening ankles on my Spindrift.

My method was different than his: Instead of "biggering" the holes on the blue piece, I used a dremel to file away the threads from the middle part of the screw until they were almost flat & the blue piece could rotate a little more freely (but still not 100% loose) on the screw.

So far it seems I've succeeded: I can move those ankle joints without the screw coming loose. And the blue piece is not floppy.

@DrCalligari, sorry to hear about the broken tab on your copy! I was concerned about those tabs... Hard to get them untapped when going from alt to bot mode, and I was wondering if there might be a breakage risk there. On mine, they seem a little less tight since the first transformation, so hopefully the danger is gone. We'll see...

All in all, Spindrift is a near perfect figure. Easiest FansToys transformation yet, I'd say.

 

Yeah that's the Fanstoys charm...between the risk of paint chipping and all the "put on your big boy pants" moments where you need to apply a scary amount of pressure, there's always that extra level of tension there.

 

Ah, good to see the "Thomas approach" works here too. It had crossed my mind ...

Thanks, I've ordered a few things from them but I appreciate the reminder. My post was more of a PSA for others so they know what to watch out for.

 

What decals did you all use? I want to buy Spindrift 2.0 but my lack of 3P decal knowledge is holding me back haha. Seaspray is one of those characters who I fondly remember from G1 as a kid but never had a toy for. I was tempted to buy the X-Transbot offering but I'm really loving the chubby proportions of Fans toys. Will be my first figure from them!

 

None. Just a Autobot symbol.

I’m not a fan of decals on MP figures. Especially since most (all?) of the decals outside of the Autobot symbol are G1 Toy stuff.

He already looks like the toon out of the box : )

 

I want to know the size for the insignia or what sheet everyone uses since I don't own any insignia sheet haha.

 

I used an Ocean water slide toon Autobot symbol for mine in robot mode, and cut a Toy-Hax clear backed toon Autobot symbol decal in half for alt-mode(because the water slide is too fragile for the location I wanted to put it). You can pretty much use any clear backed Autobot decal you can find on eBay or Toy-Hax.

Gotcha! I can help you out there. Essentially you’ll want both kinds (clear backed and white backed for different figures depending) — I put a clear backed symbol on him.

I wouldn't wait. Go ahead and get Spindrift now while it is still available at reasonable prices. Finding logos/insignias/decals are easy and can be done anytime.
