I am 36 and grew up watching the Heavy Metal War, Ultimate Doom, More Than Meets the Eye VHS. Then I got lucky and got a recorded copy of the Movie and a secondhand copy of The Return of Optimus Prime. Good times.

And I remember the McDonald's Transformers. Legit.

 

Same age here. I grew up with G2 reruns and a VHS copy of TFTM. That was my early childhood and then Beast Wars was my late childhood. Completely blew my mind when this new TF cartoon came along and treated the old TF cartoon as the "deep lore". I remember my very first ebay purchases as a kid were when I ordered a bunch of old VHS recordings so I could watch through all of G1 (and also the Japanese shows with their infamous dub).

 

We're still friends.

The original statement was that 38 year olds watched it when it originally aired.

That would make them 0-4 years old during the original airing. I didn't say people didn't watch recordings or reruns or anything like that.

It was a facetious statement to begin with.

 

Dude... Im 48. I woke up every sunday morning to go out and turn the aerial for my television so that I could get in the only channel that would run Transformers and GI Joe at 6 am. The channel was snowy under the best of circumstances. It wasnt for another 3 years before we moved into town and was able to get cable television that I was able to watch all of the episodes with a clear screen. That is something kids these days will never understand. I was in the 5th grade watching these. So your calculation of ages for them is spot on. But yeah, later to get those clear images, I was watching re-runs of them.

Apologies for an on-topic post here. I have FT-31* sorted now except for Bandit and the mysterious combiner bits. I guess I can join the extremely impatient where the hell is Bandit? club.

 

You can try to join, but the wait list alone is 2 years.

 

And then there were the people who got the big dish before scrambling was a thing and saw EVERYTHING!

 

This probably explains why you have the quickest hands in the West, CowboyFromHell.

I hope this story will someday be featured in future textbooks to show kids the difficulties of adolescence in the late 20th century.

I haven't done a cross-line height comparison, or one within the CHUGS... but it seems to me that these FT Stuntacons are out-of-scale tall in bot mode at least. I will do an alt-mode scale comparison with TT Masterpiece carbots at some point, but my initial impression is that these guys are too big. I know making this point triggers all sorts of replies like "check out this animation where Dead End towers over Optimus, therefore toon accurate", "the car mode is perfect, Datsuns are just comically tiny", and "Takara got it wrong, here's the official Sunbow scale chart" etc.

Are they too big? Just right? Do I just need to keep them on a separate shelf and stopping being OCD about it?

 

I know people usually probably point to the sunbow chart when this is brought up because the Stunticons are in fact bigger than the typical carbots on the chart. And though that might be correct, I think the simpler answer here is that FT wants all their combiners to scale with each other, which is why they’re closer in size to the FT Aerialbots than any Car that they or anybody else has made.

 

Presumably they also gave some thought to the already released Terminus Giganticus, but who knows.

 

Combiner team scale never had anything to do with alt modes. It always had to do with a member's role in the combiner team (torso bot or limb bot).

The only member of the FT stunticons who is out of scale is Motormaster, who should be the same height as Optimus Prime. DX9 is the one that had the most accurate robot mode scale for all five members.

 

Yeah I think you’re probably right, because Devastator should scale with Omega. And then the other combiners should scale with Devastator. Which obviously means that they will be announcing their Devy any day now.
