Hahaha, people excited that a figure won't be released until next year. My bank account and I can certainly relate to that.

Oh yeah I meant an outlier from the other carbots. We've gotten quite a few chibi minibots so far.

Personally I think the best combo is all realistic vehicles (but with toon accurate paint apps and toon accurate robot modes) for the carbots and all chibi vehicles for the minibots. I'm not sure who, if anyone, has been asking for the carbots to go down the chibi vehicle route.

Couldn't have said it any better, it looks too heroic and lacks the fat squat awkward chicken legged look that he had in the toon. It looks decent but doesn't nail the character by any stretch of the imagination. Too heroic for my tastes and the face looks a bit too serious for the character, will have to wait and see more of it though....

I feel like Fans Toys should be leaning more toward Spindrift 2.0 with this character and not leaning into Outrider. They’re just going to end up redesigning him if they don’t make him look slobby enough with the first release. I feel like the core of the problem is that the more serious looking aesthetic doesn’t truly capture the essence of the character, much like the original Spindrift.

100% on this. The essence of Hoist is his awkward derpyness.

I wonder if the sales of Spindrift 2.0 had any effect on this figure's design. Despite being pretty much a perfect Seaspray, he's easily the worst selling FT figure lately, and the only reason I can think of is the fact that he's fat and dumpy. I think a lot of people just want every character to look like a badass, regardless of how antithetical to the character it might be.

Well, he's also a 2.0 of a character that there are other options for from other companies. And then there's the most obvious reason: it's Seaspray.

I do agree that FT tends to make most of their figures (particularly their Autobots) a bit too grimdark/badass, though.

    Heroic builds are grimdark?

Probably not, I'm most likely just a boomer. But why I said that is because I'm thinking specifically of all the menacing scowls, like Brawn and Skyfire for example.

Damn, just got happy about Trailbreaker.

Hopefully it won't be another 5yrs before this one is thought of again. It took so long for the former that they had to redesign that mofo. Same with Blitzwing; 2 designs later, still no word.

That's the only issue I have with FT (along with limited articulation, although that's not a deal breaker). I try not to get excited about their bots until they actually show up, assuming they do at all. Still waiting to finish Menasor!

If I did get this guy, he would definitely be in the Hybrid (MP-9/10 era) section

Maybe I am in the minority but I never liked Hoist's dumpy appearance in the G1 cartoon.

XTB's looks chubbier and goofier like Hoist should be. I'll need to see him in color and the price needs to be just right for me to get in on this.

Plus I don't want to have a retooled Outrider since I'm getting him.

Anyone remember when Takara announced their MP Sunstreaker and casually mentioned Hoist and Trailbreaker were in development?  Good times.

Yeah, looking at this now, this goes very well with the likes of MP 10 and Spindrift 1.0

I don’t ever remember Hoist looking like someone that could beat Galvatron to death by simply looking at him.

he should be fat and pathetic. That’s the version I want.

Hoist design seems like a “damed if you do, damned if you don’t” when trying to realize him in 3D space. I think FT found a pretty good balance of his awkward on screen design and something that actually works in hand. I feel like they could have maybe made the shoulders higher?? But the rest really looks pretty good to me.

I only hope so far is hopefully that exposed hinge between the hood and windshield is orange.

Wow he looks really good. I might have to pre order this guy when pre orders hit at other retailers. So the price hasn't been confirmed yet, right?
