Simple...because Traibreaker's a carbot, he's got a diaclone counterpart, and he can be retooled into Hoist, a very, very extensive retool. For me ever since TT teased Skyfire....all they need to do is throw in some random Rebirth targetmaster and I'll believe we could see anyone from the Sunbow cartoon at anytime! I will be very surprised if we didn't get a Hoist from TT.

I hope they release a Hoist because all the current ones are terrible, particularly FT's.

I’m obviously in the minority on these boards, but I actually really like this. The ‘toon looked like hot garbage and was produced as cheaply and as rapidly as possible. To be fair, Hoist is one of those ‘check a box’ characters for me, so my expectations are zero, but this looks great to me, especially in comparison to the derpy, zero-fucks-given nature of the reference material.

My issue with him is the head looks way too big. The rest looks pretty good, but that part just looks out of place.

I'm also in the camp of not liking his frumpy self in the cartoon. Sometimes that stuff just doesn't translate well, and I don't really want to see how a super-accurate version of cartoon Hoist would look in toy form. The overall body structure looks good here, so well done on that part.

I can never predict what you lot are going to like or dislike. Really don't get why you're all down on this - looks like a decent interpretation of the (unquestionably odd) character to me.

FWIW, I've worked my way through every single 3P Hoist over the years to try and find one I'm happy with.
    • The Badcube one was just too wobbly and nothing locked in properly (although I love the Trailblazer version of the mold, which felt completely different in hand). The waist, in particular, was fiddly af, and the legs were quite nightmarish too.
    • The V1 of the XTB was surprisingly solid, but had some really irritating niggles - namely those super fragile articulated fingers and the compromised shoulders. Also felt unsatisfyingly hollow.
    • My MMC bot, which was one of the re-runs released much later, was easily the worst put together 3P bots I've ever owned. But again, I really liked the Trailblazer version of the mold. I suspect my copy was just a dud. Nonetheless, had to get rid.
Out of sheer desperation I tried the V2 of the XTB, and that's what I settled on. The hands, while less articulated, are no longer a headache, and they also improved the shoulders. Personally I liked the V1's chrome, but was happy to put up with the white as it's a better overall figure.

I'm not quite invested enough in the character to figure out whether I prefer the look of the FT release or not, and I don't think I can be arsed to swap it out even if I do tbh.

Hmmm, I had passed on XTB's because of QC issues I saw in some YouTube reviews but I was hoping for a different approach from FT, I really don't care for those metallic parts.

I really like this. It’s surprisingly not cartoon-accurate, which is refreshingly welcome from FT. I enjoy the quality of their builds, but the aesthetics usually disappoint me. I love the head sculpt, and the chrome.

Even if you don't mind an idealized sculpt, there are a few things that are obviously a bit wonky IMO. The headgun and the mismatched chrome (it's really polished diecast if you look closely) + silver really stick out to me.

I'm probably still in on this, but I'm kinda hoping they change the deco just a tad at least. I can probably live with the headgun.

They looked nothing alike in the show so it has to be done by separate molds.

I like the chromes, please don't beat me :D .
But the "blasters" on his head look really off, that I can agree. Hope they can at least be detached.

I noticed it was a bit dark but figured I’d be painting it green, silver, and yellow anyway. The sculpt is cool but I always thought the cartoon made it look too much like Grimlock’s.

The proportions and the faceplate still look wrong. And it doesn't change the wrong decision of sticking that thing into the back of his head.

I think this is where I am as well. I'm a mostly-but-maybe-not-always-slavishly cartoon guy anyway, and Hoist is one of those characters where I'm not sure I want a perfect cartoon representation on my shelf. I see where this figure falls short for those who do, but I think this figure does a lot right in capturing the derpy feel without going too too far.

That said, Hoist is a figure I want on my shelf (he falls within my collecting parameters) but I'm not otherwise super invested in him as a character. So maybe I'm not as passionate about him as some others. In this I'm probably more forgiving than I might be with other characters that interest me more. I think this figure might benefit from white legs rather than chrome or polished diecast, and the head cannon could be improved. But I think this figure will be my Hoist of choice and I'll be quite content with that decision.

The piece on the back of his head has to be removable.... right?

I’d need to dig mine out to confirm, but I’m pretty sure the scanner attached to the back of his head on the original toy.
