Are there any major differences between Scoria and Cecium? I "accidentally" bought my Cesium because I bought all the five dinos as a set on the secondary market when I started collecting and had no idea what I was buying back then. I just thought that they looked cool and that's it. Had no idea what FT and PF were let alone that there were two versions of their Slag.

Cesium doesn't suffer what people refer to as the "potato body" that Scoria has. On the other hand the detailing of Scoria's armored plating around his head is more detailed than Cesium.

Them not doing an X version of Cesium is what convinced me to give up on the Dibots and sell off my collection. Scoria was a nice figure for its time but just given all of the updates that the rest of the figures had gotten he definitely was a bit lacking and Cesium did look like a great option. Not sure why they never did an X version, since those were all in high demand and couldn’t have been that hard to make. If I do ever try to collect Dinobots again I’m going Gigapower just for consistency, even if their aesthetic is not quite as good as FT’s in my opinion, but those are getting expensive to track down too.

Alright... I have to ask this, else I'll drive myself bananas.

I'm a Dinobot fan. In fact, I love the big dumb shiny bastards, always have done and always will, to the point where I ended up getting both the Fanstoys and Gigapower sets, one for toon bot mode, the other for toy dino mode. I managed to snag a red gaudenter a couple of weeks back, thus completing my toy dinos, and leaving me thinking I was done. However, there's a small problem: Cesium.

I've been on the look out for this elusive bastard for a while now, and frankly, it's starting to develop into a bit of an obsession. But is it really worth it? Is it that much of an upgrade? Scoria is too small, yet Cesium is too big, which is correct? It's maddening! Maddening, I tell you!

I'm not sure which is "correct", but I would guess Cesium is more likely. Scoria was designed at a time when FT was still a new company (I think before Quakewave was even released), and they did it trying to work with MP-8 Grimlock as best they could. They included boots to increase Grimlock's size some but it was still small so that limited how big Scoria was going to be. At that time FT was not confident enough to do their own Grimlock.

Given the choice between one being smaller than Grinder and one being larger, I'd take the smaller by default. Only Sludge should/could be taller than Grimlock in my own head canon. But, that depends on you!

Part of the solution to your conundrum is how you display your Dinos. In robot mode, Scoria is a bit small. In root mode, he fits in nicely.

See, I always thought Slag should be one of the biggest. Don't ask me why, because I honestly don't know, although I suspect it's the combo of his "helmet" design and the species he takes his alternate mode from; makes me think of a big bruiser. I'd be fine if Snarl was the slightly smaller one, but it ain't, and gigapower's Slag doesn't come in toon colours, except for the metallic version, but I collected chrome damnit, and you can't get the metallic ones and.... and...

    See what I mean? It's dino-madness I tell you!

It's madness!!! I hear you and can definitely see what you're saying.

I feel the same way about the current Protectobots offerings... MMCs have the great transformations and action figure element (which I love) but are painted sparingly and their combined mode is going to be too small. Meanwhile XTB's are the right size combined, and are painted really well, but the action figure element is lost and the transformations are abhorrent.

What if you got someone to 3d print boots for Scoria?

I picture Slag to be on the smaller side of Dinobots. He is, literally, the hothead of the bunch. Smaller guy with a chip on his shoulder.

I went through this dilemma few years ago... I went with Scoria as he fits better other the other dinoboys.. Cesium would make Sludge and Snarl feel not as big and imposing. However that's just the FT figures. With giga boys it might work height wise but not sure aesthetically. Cesium looks like a better upgrade but my Scoria ain't a bad looking fella

I don't get the ongoing discussion about Slag's height from people who want toon accuracy for their Dinobots (!!!). There's little to no room for interpretation. Asking for Slag (or Swoop) to be smaller than the rest of the team is personal preference but his Sunbow appearance is no basis for that.

The ongoing discussion about ongoing discussions will always be ongoing because of preference. apatosaurus was larger than a triceratops so some people will go with that size chart in their heads, some g1 comic, g1 cartoon, IDW etc etc. It matters not as long as people enjoy their options at the end of the day

"from people who want toon accuracy for their Dinobots" is what I said.

Preferences weren't up to debate. Please, enjoy your other options. But using Sunbow to give some sort of proof is wrong.
