At least he was shown using his base mode in the cartoon, unlike a lot of others

I think you are right, how could anyone cultivate that illusion. A trailer into articulated legs? Preposterous.

One could argue that the base mode makes things complicated... but the thing is, this third party's base mode is much, much worse than the original.
And I am saying this as somebody who would really like to have a well done third party Armada toyline.

To be fair, that trailer has an entire abdomen and arms to distribute the kibble too and isnt STRICTLY legs.

And it doesn't turn into a base. So it's quite the unfair comparison.

that was my point - unless the base mode is quite good, then the legs should at least be as well made as that $50 toy.

Well first of all we don't know how good the base mode is. Secondly you're using a very specific and not universally sharred definition of 'as well made'. Thirdly you're passing quietly over Kaynowa's point that PotP Optimus's trailer doesn't just turn into the legs; If it did, all the mass it's put into the arms and torso cage would have to go somewhere. Somewhere like, say, skirts perhaps?

You know the legs are articulated, right? They bend, and everything.

You're saying this is good? Okay
    Unknown.jpeg

    Also, yes --
    Base mode makes it complicated.
Accurate alt-mode trailer makes it complicated.
    Self-propulsion makes it complicated.
An actually complete cab alt mode (compared to half-a-cab-alt-mode for POTP PMOP) makes it complicated.
    Screen Shot 2020-07-20 at 3.14.32 PM.png
    MiniCon features make it complicated.
Combination with future figures makes it complicated.

FansHobby has a strong history of implementing feedback from collectors. They changed Power Baser a bunch during the prototyping stage when they asked for suggestions.
Perhaps they'll listen to your suggestion to make the kibble a parts-forming backpack? I'm not 100% sure that would be a universally-popular move, though. I'm sure you've seen all the complaints about Athena's parts-forming car roof.

Personally I really like how the skirts look. I'm a fan of that kind of flowing look, I think it can help make poses more dynamic. I also think it's ultimately a necessity of the design, seeing as the base mode is a ton of platforms which can only compress so much this seems like a fair effort to me. How necessary is the base mode? I think that depends on your perspective. As someone who grew up with the toy and not the cartoon, I'd say it is completely necessary. I can see why someone would say otherwise, but I think it's a key part of this design, and I think this update, nay, upgrade to how that design worked is a great middle point between having a base mode with lots of platforms and bit to interact with while also having articulated super mode legs.

It being clearly used in the show is the only reason I defend it. It wasnt a throwaway mode like, say, Overlord's (to my knowledge). They displayed this mode and highlighted it in the series as an integral facet of the trailer.

I'm sure Fanshobby will release add-on parts for this figure in the future like they have with their other products with like a trailer with a more anime accurate pants mode along with less back kibble for the bot mode and a more anime accurate head... I mean they've done this sort of thing with their other products so I wouldn't be surprised. It has to sell well first for something like that to happen though. If it were to sell poorly we probably won't see Fanshobby touch Armada ever again and they would probably cancel production of Armada Megatron. It would really suck if that were to happen. Personally I actually like how the figure turned out but even if I wasn't the biggest fan of their design choices with this I will purchase it anyways to support Armada MPs.

There are two things that bother me: the super mode head not being show accurate (which, if they're smart, they can include one with Jetfire) and Sparkplug being simply ugly imo (wich I can swap with my original)

I like his cape. It keeps the silhouette of the original, while allowing his actual legs to not be several inches thick from the side.

Like, I expect him to be bottom heavy since the upper body was so much thinner than the legs on the original, and I always took it as a cape/coat tails since the back/base of the trailer didn't split like the leg facades on the front. So a cape/long coat effect works for me. Personal preference of course, and the recent pictures seem intended to show how that doesn't impact posability.

I take back anything I said about partsforming kibble. They've already articulated it to create a dynamic silhouette. I like this compromise. Probably won't extend those armatures, but I like their "Special Mode".
