Matere's art is fantastic and all, but it's Wreck-Gar's wrist articulation that gets me all giddy. He's gonna look glorious in various swashbuckling poses with Prime Dead End's scimitars.
Slag has been called Slag longer than he has been called Slug. Nostalgia is a stronger force than some arbitrary change due to "censorship". I don't think "molten slag" is an offensive term, and has no relation to the derogatory sexual insult. Words can have more than one meaning, and Slag's name is not the insulting definition.
My next five choices for the Shattered Glass Collection would be Cyclonus from Kingdom Cyclonus Rodimus from Studio Series '86 Hot Rod Grimlock from Studio Series '86 Grimlock Treadshot from Studio Series '86 Jazz Soundwave & Thundercracker from Kingdom Core Soundwave and Starscream
Honestly, this argument, while true, doesn't work for me. It's not like someone decided at some point that a word was offensive. We discovered that the word was offensive to certain people. When one discovers something like this, the correct response isn't "Well, it isn't offensive to *me.*" The correct response is, "I'm sorry. I'll try to do better." Hasbro is trying to do better, and so the triceratops Dinobot (who I confess will still remain "Slag" in my own mind, better intentions notwithstanding) now sports a new name.
MultiNationalCorps are normally allergic to controversies. Period. But recent developments seems to belie that. Depending how the board of directors mindset. Some might want to jump on a certain trend (eeehm, Hb been doing that since 2015 up) or just play it safe. TT will just use a JP font decal to fix their version. He will of course be Slag. (Btw, wasn't there a Gobot called Stacks?)
It doesn’t matter. It has an alternative offensive meaning. They changed it back 13 years ago, they were editing it out of dubs over 20 years ago. No ones forcing you to use the name they changed it to. Get over it and move on, pick a different hill to die on. god damn if only hasbro had just said “oh we just don’t have the copyright for the name” like so many characters you folks would just shut up about it already instead this bullshit.
Imagine a character named "Bitch" after a female dog, before it was used in a negative way. Should they keep the name now just because it's not the derogatory definition of the word?
Again, Slag’s name has nothing to do with the offensive term. There is an offensive way to use the word slag, Dinobot Slag’s name is not offensive; we still have the term molten slag in the UK. This is an actual place in the UK. And has nothing to do with derogatory term either.
