Yeah but after season 1 the show fell apart.

If the NPC's don't get stuck on the easily exploitable navmesh, is it really Fallout?

Nah, season 3. Season 2 is pretty tight upon rewatch.

But my wife is stoked about a Fallout series.

Eh, it might be good, but I worry it will be 100% based on Bethesda Fallout, and won't take any influence from the classic games or New Vegas. I definitely hope it's good though, I love Fallout and I think there's definitely room to tell a TV style story in its universe

Fallout has never exactly been great at telling stories (at least for the main quests) in the games. However, you could do interesting things within the world of Fallout; especially if you’re pulling from New Vegas (the best Fallout game in my opinion).

If they don't use We'll All Go Together by Tom Lehrer at some point they will have missed a perfect song for the darkly humorous tone used in regards to a lot of pre-bomb culture in Fallout.

I don't think it's going to be more than a fairly generic post-apocalyptic show with some retro music and art in the mix.

The Fallout franchise isn't very politically correct, even Bethesda games kept some of its snark in the background. It's not fit for modern mass media without making a lot of loud people upset.

While I'll admit I've only every played Fallout 3 - and didn't care much for it - my friends have played the series a lot from ye olde Fallout and the game world has never struck me as politically incorrect. There's certainly a heavy dose of social satire running under it with the atomic age aesthetic dial set at maximum absurdity (I mean Jesus Christ, nuclear powered cars? Fucking hell) but its never been a franchise that thrives on any kind of hatred.

In no way or shape a modern TV show can play the McCarthyism broken mirror and the Red Chinese buildup to the war without offending someone. You'll have to skip over the pandemic leading to the war too. Then you'll have to probably move away from the last take on NCR and their Manifest Destiny v2.0.

It might work as a post-apocalyptic western show, but better to not reference specifics of the setting too closely.

You know the Westworld movie had a sequel, called Futureworld? Post season 1 Westworld takes story beats from it.

You must not have played it much. The main villains in Fallout 2 and 3 were the remnants of the US government (the Enclave) wanting to commit Genocide of anyone not them. Due to all waste landers being "mutants." The US government of Fallout's 2077 was putting anyone who's Ethnically Chinese into concentration camps. And not giving a shit if bears eat a few (it's why bear creatures are called Yao Guai). Anyone who got arrested for anything might end up being experimented on by some government lab or corporate contractor. See Super mutants and Robo-brains. Only 1 in 10 vaults (maybe) were as advertised. The rest were about human experimentation to find the optimum way to rebuild after the great war or colonize another planet. They also created bio weapon virus that got loose in 2053, when the Chinese tried to steal it, and killed 200000 people in two years. And they never found a cure. Fallout has always had a defacto Anarchist bent to it.

Yes but it changes character aspects from season 1. The over all narrative and plot structure doesn't hold up to the tight well planned structure of season 1. They also deviate from things season 1 set up.
It also takes aspects from Beyond Westworld which was a TV series. I think I posted videos of it in the westworld thread.
