One of my favorite things about this game is when you're in the middle of a quest/exploration, and you're in a battle with multiple enemies, and another player will show up and help you take them out. Given the sheer size of the map, it's quite the feat.
Exactly. We’re kidding ourselves if we think Bethesda is going to fix this game. They have little to no history of doing so in the past, and they have two major projects in the pipeline. They’ve actually had Starfield in the works for a while now, and I imagine their full focus is about to shift to that in order to win their fans back. As for the graphics, it is true that graphics don’t indicate a game’s quality, but I think we should definitely expect better from such a large studio. The Witcher 3 came out 3 years ago, and it blows this out of the water in terms of graphics. Hellblade is an entirely different kind of game and a much shorter one, but even that looks way better and cost way less to make.
BTW, given the low number of players in general, I'd suggest the following to deal with trolls: If they're talking trash or just griefing, and not actually hacking, I'd just make it so that enough reports = a bounty put on the players head. Also:
I finally started messing around with claimed workshops. Nice, easy way to get XP, and resources too - if you're not a complete idiot like me. I built a water purifier to harvest some clean water while I was out exploring. Forgot to attach it to a generator. Whoops.
I have not played this game yet. I want to make that clear. But, I have seen a lot of Twitch players play it. The game seems to have all the problems of a standard Bethesda "RPG", and all the problems of an MMO. But, it does still have the core gameplay loop that these games do. The explore, kill, and loot. Which really is all that Skyrim and Fallout 4 were. All of that is still very much here. It just happens to now be online. Which, I honestly think is what is holding the game back from being great. If it wasn't an MMO, and just coop with friends, I think it would be a much better game. From what I see, there is very little actual interaction between players. It's mostly a single player game. A single player game, with other players. But they barely make an impact in the game. It has all the bugs that the previous games had. Except, those games had the chance to be fixed by mod makers. This game currently doesn't. And, probably won't. At least not for quite some time. It's not going to have an unofficial patch. It also seems to have the same terrible user interface on PC, which is where I play, that FO4 and Skyrim had for PC. Which are fixable with user interface mods. I've seen streamers get disconnected from a server, and then be reconnected to a totally different server as well. The game also seems to be a very empty, lacking in actual content game. So, I can understand where people are coming from when they talk about the "no NPCs". And, I agree, it does seem to be a problem. Content that is most likely going to be sold as DLC. DLC, that is probably already finished, and just being cut off, so they can sell it separately later. This game already has microtransactions in it. Which, with the way they are doing it, I am okay with it. I would prefer that they were not there. At least not until all the DLC expansions have been released. And then release microtransaction cosmetics to keep it going. Overall, I think it is a very decent game. Not nearly as good as the previous games, but still a decent one. It certainly has it's problems. But it also does look like a lot of fun. I'm not liking the gigantic 50 GB patches. But, it is a game that has just been released. So, maybe that will stop being a thing in a few months. If not, I am going to have a problem there. Being that my internet service caps data to like 250 GB a month, total. Gigantic patches can cause a problem there, for me. And, I am sure others also have data caps on their internet. So, right now, I don't think the game is worth it's asking price. But, at the same time I am glad there are people enjoying it. It just needs more content for me to consider buying it. Especially at the current asking price. Even with a discounted price. Just not worth it right now. But, I do think in a year or so it will be worth it. Just hope there are still open servers in a year.
What an absolute fucking disaster, Bethesda has screwed this up in a manner I didn't even think was possible at this point.
I love it. Everything about this is a failure. The game is a failure, the way Bethesda is handling it is failure. It’s so bad it’s funny at this point, and that is genuinely a sad thing.
