I first noticed in Drift -
    [IMG]

and they are very distinct in Striker Optimus Prime -
    [IMG]

The eye(balls). I suppose they followed the changes in how the eyes of the Transformers are drawn in the cartoons or modelled in the Movieverse. I was quite taken aback with Drift to be honest, and still think SG Drift looks better with his eyeball-less eyes, but I am used to them and like them in most cases. The exception is TFA Black Optimus - pics later.

Maybe people don't care as much as I do (I like taking close-up photos of my TFs), but anyone has thoughts on this change? Or post pics of your favourite/disliked "optics" :)

Yeah, I think Drift looks kinda odd, but that shot of Optimus looks great with his eyes like that! PRiD CJ's look pretty cool too. Guess it depends on the figure, for me, or the execution I guess. Oddly enough I don't think FE CJs eyes are like that. But I don't recall now. I only had him for a few days before his eyes got painted!

I like all of the designs for the eyes of the Transformers the same.

The detailed scupt eyes look strange to me when they're not painted, like with Prime Arcee. had the area around the actual eye been painted black, I think it would look much better.

My favorite Transformer eyes are Animated Swindle's. The sculpted pupils inside the eyes (not on the surface) look awesome when light piped. Bumblebee's are cool too, but nowhere near as good as Swindle's.

Yeah swindles eyes do look cool.

As nice as it is when the light strikes light piping properly however, I'd take painted eyes any day. Unless you want to display your TF's in front of a window and risk the wrath of discolouration, for the most part light piped eyes just look so dark and soulless.

I like Swindle's as well. The best part is that they're NOT sculpted detail- they're actually cleverly-placed air bubbles.

I saw the molded optics on RoTF prime. I think its a great addition to figures that have stuff like those details drawn into the design.

I like TFP Weaponizer Bumblebee's eyes, they seem to be staring at you.

TFP AM Orion Pax's eyes are also nice, crystal blue with silver flecks.

I prefer the more organic eyeball over the geometric lens, though I think some Movieverse figures go too crazy with details there; they kinda look like shiny, weirdly colored raisins.

The PRID Voyager Prime has some pretty nice optics, but they look best on AM Nemesis.

Nothing sets off a figure like some good light-piping:

I'm a huge fan of light-piping :)  Having said that,

After seeing Hasbro MP-10, I know what you mean, too. With the right colour, the paint can make the eyes startlingly alive.

I don't have TFA Swindle :(  Pics please!!

I forgot this particular figure that prompted me to create this thread. Telemocha Corahda. He was released 3 years before TFA toys.
He has eyeballs painted on his eyes (the original BW Neo release doesn't), and I always wondered if a person painging this figure did a bit of mischief. I took a close up photo and noticed the eyeballs actually seem to be moulded

I only had one other telemocha reissue, and he (dlx Convoy) didn't have anything on his eyes. Anyone with other Telemocha figures have some pics you can share?

TFA Black Optimus is soooo cool from this angle.

    Looking up -

    Same with Toxitron -
    [IMG]

Cyclonus has something going on in his eyes. I like it a lot :D

Most of the Prime figures have nice optics molded in. I first noticed it with the Powerizer OP and PRID CJ.

I'm not a fan of the detailed eyes. And light pipping I can do without. I prefer painted eyes.
