Can any Transformers fans who are also big hardcore fans of robots in Japanimation,
please name what you consider is as the tallest giant robot in Japanese only anime (
be it anime film or anime TV).

Any robot Transformers characters are EXCLUDED.
My own view is that it's Diebuster, also know as Gunbuster.
    Other possible candidates are below.

Deucalion (32000 kilometres). Not sure about it.

I understand the mecha Ideon and the Daitarn 3 (old school) are also very huge.

    SDF-1 from Macross ?.
This doesn't really count, as SDF-1 is more of a battleship, that just
sort of looks like a robot.

Shin Dragon from Shin Getter Robo is pretty huge.
Shin Getter by comparison is almost twice the size as Getter Robo.
Shin getter often stands on top of Shin Dragon's forehead.

Devil Gundam from G Gundam ?

    The Big O, Voltron ?

I'm not too knowledgeable on every giant robot ever made, but....

If we're talking normal, bipedal, humanoid giant robots piloted by one person, I've seen size charts showing that EVAs are freaking huge. But then as my roommate would point out, EVAs aren't robots... :rolleyes2

But in terms of any and all giant robots that take on different forms, the Devil Gundam from G Gundam did merge with the entire Neo-Japan colony. That's damn big.

Nah, the SDFs were transforming mecha, not Transformers, they count. But if you've got a 32,000km tall one, that beats the SDF ships. If you're talking straight anthropomorphic mecha, then the SDF would prolly top them all.

Space ships included, then you've got a whole different range of shows to look at.

    And V'ger wasn't japanese-only, it was star trek :p

Diebuster and Gunbuster are two different robots all together, actually. Gunbuster was from the first series. Diebuster is the giganting huge robot from the 2nd one.

And yeah, Diebuster is probably one of the largest (If not the largest) Super Robot ever, although there are likely to be other humanoid shaped objects out there.

King J-Der in GaoGaiGar is pretty damn big. Pia Dekim Pit, one of the enemy mecha from GaoGaiGar FINAL, trumps him though. He's roughly SDF-1 sized in robot mode, but unlike the SDF-1, he is all controlled by Pia Dekim alone. King J-Der isn't that big, but he is still massive.

So there you have it. Gunbuster and DanGuard Ace are the two biggest, with the SDF-1 beating all by a comfortable margin if you choose to count it. That said, Ideon is easily the most powerful of them, in spite of being fifth largest.

If we throw in Sentai mecha, I understand that Daijinryu is one of the absolute biggest of them all. Although technically that's neither an anime nor a mecha.

And if you want to throw in manga. There was this one that I can't remember the name of with a robot bigger than the Earth. I have a book with an ad in it somewhere. It also had the best tagline.

"In space, the Earth is your beachball."

Yeah, I remember that one. Can't remember the name or anything, but it was being published around the same time the Guyver OVAs were being released in English, early to mid nineties.

You pretty much answered your own question. The Deucalion from Kiddy Grade would be the biggest, but it really is more like the Macross than an actual mecha. Thus, I would give it to the Diebuster. Now if you want to talk about the most powerful robot, then it would be Ideon...not even Unicron can destroy the entire universe.
