So I'm leaving tomorrow night for a week in (hopefully) sunny Puerto Rico, San Juan area with a group of friends. Anybody have any travel tips/places to avoid/awesome locations? We are already planning on hitting the caves, rainforest, and the huge radio antenna, among other places. This is my first time leaving the continental US. It will be island funtimes with cheap rum aplenty.
Don't do drugs. Best advice you'll ever get. Aaaand general travel advice: Try and learn some basics phrases of the local language. Even though most people speak English it's best to avoid using it... Try not to be loud and obnoxious. Try and mask whatever accent you may have (if anyone asks, say you're Canadian).
Why exactly? Do mean in a travel setting, or are you insinuating that I'm high right now? Or do you mean there's something wrong with the acid in Puerto Rico? I don't follow.
Considering that I don't buy drugs in the first place (let alone from strangers), it won't be a problem. I just thought it was odd that was the first thing mentioned.
Have a great trip. Stay away from the coconut milk and non-bottled water unless you like peeing out you anus...
While that may be decent general travel advice, it really doesn't apply here. He's not leaving the United States.
Water, yes. I went to Florida once upon a time and did just that. But coconut milk? That's one of my favorite ingredients! Not that I'll be eating a ton of Thai food.
I was told (an experienced) while in The Dominican that coconut milk is a natural laxitive..that being said, if you body is use to it, you should have no problem I would think.
Ah yes, I've heard that. Probably true. As for other activities, I'm also considering going on a chupacabra hunt. Who wants the tail?
***googles*** never heard of that...here are some hunting tips: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chupacabra
I mean just avoid drugs in general and also make sure all your luggage is good secured as shifty airport workers will shoves drugs into your bags for the lulz. The point I'm really trying to make is that lots of people go overseas and do drugs without realizing the criminal stuff involved with them overseas etc. And remember to treat your mother right.
But llama, he's not going overseas! Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the US and all Puerto Ricans are US citizens! It's like he's travelling to another state. One that's an island 1,200 miles away from the mainland.
There's a nice resturant on top of a hotel with a killer view in San Juan. The drinks are the size of bowls. Hope you like to drink. Go to ANY local sandwich place and try their bread. Pan de aqua. That's the best. If you get a chance try that seafood soup. One of the best ever. East of San Juan in Carolina there's a water park. You may want to check that out and see the honeys. If you get a chance go to El Yunque a national rainforest. Then go to Luquillo my parents home town and get to beach stat. One of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico. Take lots of pictures. Ponce is cool, if you like history. Plus some cool baseball history down there too.
My advice would be to have fun. Never been to PR, though, so no specifics. Maybe try some snorkeling?
Snorkeling is on the menu. I really wanted to try scuba diving, but apparently you need to get licensed and go through a bunch of crap.
Do you know the story about a supposedly haunted natural land bridge outside of San Juan? Somebody told me a story about how a guy and his cow fell off it and died, and if you go yell "Where's my cow" off of it you get a response? It sounded like an interesting place, but I couldn't find any info about it.
That's a new one. I've heard a similiar story about a guy and his cow in Isabela. Basically the cow just ran straight off the cliff died with the owner. And everytime you yell the guy's name off the cliff the oceans water shots up. I try it myself and it worked. Freaky man.
