LOL, true, but I'm just letting you know what I gathered from the thread. Wouldn't surprise me if he paid around 2K.
Yeah, I've been seeing that for a long while. Its one of those things: if it has value to somebody at that price, they will buy it..but I just dont personally put a $2500 value on this..Hell I have both Fort Max complete with the box and Brave Max complete with the box and paid a total of $1250 between the two of them..in fact just got my Brave Max today! Even current Brave Max auctions are going for this: 2001 Takara Transformers Car Robots Brave Maximus MISB - eBay (item 330458193210 end time Sep-04-10 08:06:21 PDT) Or Transformers G1 C-027 Fortress Brave Grand Maximus MIB - eBay (item 360290839009 end time Aug-23-10 12:25:37 PDT) Even this is very steep IMO
There is no European version of Grand Maximus. Europe to my knowledge never got any of the -Maximus toys. Italy might be the only place that got him, but to the best of my knowledge their unique TFs were only guys like Galaxy Shuttle. If there had ever been a European release, it would have been mentioned in Alvarez's book of International Transformers, or one of the other major sources for international Transformers information. It's simply not possible that something that big could have gone unmentioned - and unproven - for such a great length of time.
Me neither. Those are loony prices. $1500 for a MISB Brave Max is crazy. I would maybe pay half that.
i'm serious, i study the prices, i've seen most fort maxes with box go for around a grand and grand max for about a grand and a half
So do I. If you're talking about scoring a MISB Fortress Maximus at that price point. Yes, one might have a chance... But if you're telling me that a MISB Grand Maximus goes under USD $1,500, then... I don't think I'll take you seriously from now on.
Hamleys apparently had it briefly as well. Around 1989 the Toymaster chain (UK and Ireland) also ran a coloring-in competition to win one from your local store. This would suggest they had surplus stock at some point...however they may have intended to distribute it. (...and i didn't win, was super-depressed about it :-( )
Back on topic. I've never seen a Grand Max Spike but shouldn't it have the copywright info molded onto a real one. People have noted that those are not on the KOs so it makes it easier to tell apart.
That's a dead giveaway for the 6 Japanese exclusive ones (Leone, Rodney, Kirk etc.) - but for the Zarak and Spike molds, there's no copyright. Look at the rivets, that's a giveaway. Here's a guide.
Both Hamleys and Toymaster had a few imported FM's for promotional purposes. Hamleys had about twenty of them (off the top of my head without checking), no idea how many Toymaster had.
I can wait for the KO Fort Max to get released... 3-4 hundred is much easier to swallow. Hopefully they do Grand Max, too. But there's a guide on how to tell the Spikes apart. EDIT: beat to the punch.
Hey OP, who's the seller? Sounds like yet another unscrupulous douche trying to make a quick buck off unsuspecting buyers. When you file a Paypal dispute, you can always link to the comparison guide Locustrain posted, though I suspect they'll just take your word on it even without that link since Paypal typically goes with the any reason the buyer has for making a dispute. Also make sure to select the option of having received a fake for the dispute SNAD dispute reason.
Ok here are some comparison Pictures: Original:KO (bad paint on the eyes) KO:KO (both bad paint on the eyes) Original:KO KO:Original (Chest detail pattern difference) KO:KO (Same chest detail pattern) KO:Original (Chest detail pattern difference)
