I discovered when I got my new phone last month that Google Play has a free metal sampler album called "Here's The Metal (new one each month I believe). Newest sampler had Whitechapel, Lacuna Coil, Death, Adestria, just to name a few. You guys might want to check it out.

At least nobody has listed Motley Crew. I remember all the Metalheads at my school calling them sellouts and stopped listening to them, lol.

i don't know... i don't even get metal albums anymore these days since it's become so shit... every teenager forms a band and then they go screaming their guts out with no rhythm to the music... metal is becoming a nonsense genre with what's going on inside it... i blame it on Dillinger escape plan and their so called: MATHEMATICAL MUSIC. random notes, extreme screams....i can state all my favorite classics but i'll just stick to what i have listened recently and what i consider generally awesome forever.

i'll just stick to what used to be cool. and here are my recent listens which i enjoyed.

    Trivium
    Machine head: locust
Lamb of god (i'm not a big fan... but they're ok)
the Agonist: Lullabies for the Dormant Mind
    Ministry: Relapse
    Baroness: yellow and green
    Deftones: koi no yokan
    KMFDM: KUNST
Limp Bizkit: gold cobra (yes yes, he's still relevant and this album is fucking awesome)
    Six feet under: unborn
Fearfactory: Industrialist (and all other previous albums)
    Shining: one one one
as i lay dying: shadows are security (an old one)
arch enemy: the root of all evil

i guess the rest of the stuff are not considered metal anymore:

Therapy?: nurse, a brief crack of light, troublegum
    Them crooked vultures: self titled
Queens of the stone age: ...like clockwork
    Linkinpark: meteora and hybrid theory
monster magnet: (probably all of their albums?)
Alice in chains: devil put dinosaurs here.

and of course NINE INCH NAILS (because trent reznor is a fucking god and fuck you if you hate him)

oh rammstein... how could i forget about them? specially their last album.

and static-x, wayne static always makes me laugh, they have great albums. pick any.

mudvayne's self titled album (which i believe was their last sofar) was pretty good, i started to like them.

children of bodom: all the albums till the end of "are you dead yet" , after that they started to suck.

metallica: i'll generally say pick any. but RE-LOAD has a special place in my heart since i was introduced to metal by it.

the new burzum stuff is good.

and IMMORTAL!... ahahaha! yes, who can deny LORD ABBATH'S crazy voice? "ALL SHALL FALL" was an amazing album and pretty hilarious video.

i used to love "cradle of filth" as a teenager... but... not anymore. they are ridiculous.

and i'd say pick any cannibal corpse album. because... metal.

    the sword: Age of Winters

and manson everything before: eat me drink me.

and here's a little something so we can all laugh:

*In bold are the times I've seen them live*

Killswitch Engage - As Daylight Dies + Alive or Just Breathing
Saw twice, seeing again this summer

    Metallica - 80s + 90s (avoid 2000s)
    Saw once, with Godsmack

Sabbath - The Dio Era (preferred him to Ozzy)

Ozzy- Blizzard of Oz + Diary of a Madman (the Randy Rhoads era - legendary guitar).

    Megadeth- All of their work
Saw once w/ Lacuna Coil, Motorhead, Volbeat

    Lacuna Coil - Comalies
Saw twice - one in a festival (w/ Megadeth, Motorhead, and Volbeat, and one in a club

    Slipknot - Iowa
Stone Sour (related) - House of Gold and Bones PART ONE (didn't like part two as much)
Saw Slipknot at a rock festival w/ Slayer and others. Saw Stone Sour at a rock festival with Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, and Halestorm sharing the main stage

    DIO - Holy Diver
DIO TRIBUTE - Ronnie James Dio - This is Your Life (Covers/tributes by Corey Taylor, Metallica, Judas Priest, Halestorm, Anthrax, etc...)

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare / Hail the King
Saw them w/ Disturbed, Halestorm, and Stone Sour at "Q-ruption" 2010. Will see Avenged at this year's Mayhem Festival as the headliner

Asking Alexandria - Reckless and Relentless + From Death to Destiny
Saw them in March at Upstate Concert Hall and will see them again at Mayhem 2014

    Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
Saw them in 2000/2001 as the "nobody" warmup band at another show lol

All That Remains -Ovecome + A War You Cannot Win
Saw twice at Northern Lights/Upstate Concert Hall in upstate NY

    Body Count - Body Count
Will see this summer - Mayhem Fest

Bring Me the Horizon - Sempiternal
Was going to see them in Feb, but the concert was canceled due to snow

Bullet for My Valentine - The Poison + Scream, Aim, Fire
Drove 2 hours to see them and the Black Veil Brides at Poughkeepsie, NY in October. I got a guitar pick from the lead guitarist!

Black Veil Brides - We Stitch These Wounds
    See above

    Disturbed - Sickness + Believe
Saw Disturbed twice. The show with Slipknot in the early 2000s and at "Q-Ruption" 2010 w/ Halestorm, Avenged, Stone Sour

DEVICE (related to Disturbed) - Self-Titled
Saw them at Upstae COncert Hall last May

    Heaven's Basement - Unbreakable

    In This Moment - Blood
(the new album is harder than the old ones, though the old albums have their share of good tracks)
Saw them at "Q-Ruption" 2012 with Adelitas Way, Godsmack, and crap bands like Shinedown - Maria Brink actually came out and did a duet with the Shinedown douche

Pierce the Veil - Collide With the Sky
(not terribly metal, but still a decent band that's typically at Metal festivals)

Skillet - Rise, Awake, Alien Youth
NOTE: Any Skillet Recommendation is for the non-Jesus filled half of the album as they typically have half respectable rock songs and half Christian crap.

    Taproot - Welcome
Saw them in the early 2000s at a small club

    Trivium - Crusade, Vengeance Falls
Upstate concert hall and again this summer at Mayhem 2014

Newer bands I'm listening to / enjoy

    Butcher Babies - Goliath
(heavy band with two female singers - one sounds like Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil and the other sounds like Maria Brink of In This Moment)

Austrian Death Machine - Triple Burial
(A few goofy intros, but ultra heavy. "One More Rep" is the ultimate workout song)

I loved their first 3 Albums. After that they became a Finnish pop band which is very strange to me.

Along this vein I also love Kalmah (better than Bodem imo), Ensiferum with Jari, Wintersun and Amon Amarth.

Amon Amarth is one of my favorite bands. My favorite album of theirs is Twilight of the Thunder God. They are absolutely incredible.

Melodic Death Metal is my favorite sub genre within Heavy Metal. It has the most interest to me as well as the most creativity.

melodic death metal used to be my favorite too, i still listen to it if i find a decent band. but when they go too growly it kind of turns me off unless there is something unique to them. winter sun wasn't bad. i had one album but left it at that.

archenemy is probably one of my favorites in this category.

yep, amon amarth is one of the better contemporary metal bands. (by that i mean the new bands). i always imagine the singer as a wild bunny (the front teeth?)... :D  but yes, they are an epic band. i love them.

GUYS... I WAS JUST INTRODUCED TO NEWSTED!

i thought Jason had disappeared forever. but DEAAAAMN, the "heavy metal music" album is everything i ever wanted from a metal album since... i don't know 8 years ago? it's just back to old school true metal. i definitely recommend this album.

My 4 year old daughter tries to sing Megadeth's Sweating Bullets. It's hilarious to hear her try and imitate Mustane's raspy voice :lol

Megadeth: Rust In Peace is a great album. "Holy Wars" might be the best Metal song ever.
