Let's talk epic Metal albums! There are quite a few so I'll start with one that is relevant to me right now (been listening to it) In Flames - Whoracle. The album kicks ass from start to finish. It's absolutely ferocious and, imo, their best! Its almost 20 years old but still just as incredible as when it first came out.
Some might argue it's not metal but Angel Dust by Faith No More is one of my favourite albums. It was just a very different sound from the hair metal of the 80s and the Nirvana phenomenon. With eclectic vocal styles, keyboard lead songs, splashes of humour, samples a plenty, some interesting subject matter and a metal backbone it really worked for me, and still holds up today. Considered by many as the grand daddy album of Nu Metal. Mileage will vary on how good a thing that is.
Sort of metal related since its Corey Taylor of Slipknot's other band Stone Sour's double album The House of Gold and Bones 1 & 2 is one of the best album sets I've ever heard. I highly recommend listening from the beginning to end. Different tunes from songs end up mixed into other songs.
"The Real Thing" was better as an introductory album for most, but "Angel Dust" was pure artwork. As for a truly epic album, I'll forever be stuck on "Operation: Mindcrime" by Queensryche.
That's true, although I loved TRT as a 10 year old, not so much now. 'Falling to Pieces' is my all time favourite FNM song though. Funnily enough the thing that got me into the band was the mention of Transformers in 'We Care a Lot'. Some good picks lads. Wonder how many posts we'll get to before there is an album I absolutely hate.
This is like Dran0n: The Thread. As for mine... Megadeth: Rust in Peace Metallica: Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave Evanescence: Fallen Disturbed: The Sickness Rings of Saturn: Dingir Slayer: Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, God Hates Us All Marilyn Manson: Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, Holy Wood Dio: Holy Diver Black Sabbath: Self-titled, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Heaven and Hell, 13 Avenged Sevenfold: Waking the Fallen Anthrax: Among the Living That about does it.
Anything by Dream Theater is typically epic, they have plenty of concept albums. Devin Townsend is bad ass, check out Ocean Machine. Opeth does some crazy shit.
It looks weird to see Mechanical animals between AS and HW.The MA album was just out there.New Model is one of my top picks for it though. Golden age of the Grotesgue was badass.I stopped paying attention after Eat me,Drink me....that was just.... Going to add Dope:First album(they are all really good albums)is my top Static-X: Pick one, they are all badass. Mushroomhead:Beautiful stories for ugly children Nine inch nails: Pretty hate machine and welcome to the hate machine. Stuck Mojo:Snappin necks I'm sure i could come up with more if i seat down and thought about it.These were the first to come to mind.
Pretty much. As for my picks: Disturbed: EDIT: Fuck it, all their albums are amazing Metallica: Load, Metallica, Kill 'Em All, Master of Puppets Five Finger Death Punch: The Way of the Fist, War is the Answer Rob Zombie: Hellbilly Deluxe, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor Korn: Follow the Leader, See You on the Other Side Godsmack: Godsmack, Awake Pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head.
All Lamb of God albums, yeah I am probably a bit biased because they are my favorite. Aside from that, Pantera's Far Beyond Driven and Vulgar Display of Power are maybe two of the most angriest metal album in history.
Nice. Helloween kicked ass. I'll add something a little "newer" for my list. Mudvayne - L.D. 50, The End of All Things to Come, and Lost and Found
Bugger me, this will be fun Metallica - The Black Album Iron Maiden - Powerslave Judas Priest - British Steel, Painkiller Sabaton - Carolus Rex Hammerfall - Crimson Thunder Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm (This album is so damn silly, but I love it )
I love Opeth. Ghost Reveries is my favorite Opeth album but they are all good (except for Devil's Orchard).
ManoWar: The Triumph of Steel.. I haven't heard too much that can match the Epic 24 minutes of Achilles: Agony and Ecstasy in 8 parts....
