Not this fan! The reboot was the best thing IDW could have done to put out that garbage fire.
*Stares longingly at the blank space where a RiD01 box set and RiD update figures would go*
20th Anniversary celebration, Hasbro, please?
You said nothing has been able to capture the fun of original that’s why I called you that.I don’t understand why some fans call idw or cyberverse and media that uses the original designs rehashes where the stories are completely different now that we’ll probably always gonna see those designs since hasbro wants the brand to have a unified look and I like their decision.
I also don't like the unified look. I loved the varied take on the concepts we got in the Beast Era, RID, UT, Animated, Prime. I loved having novel takes on the characters, rather than slight stylistic differences. Optimus Primal and RID Prime and Armada Prime and Prime Prime are all clearly not the same guy as G1 Optimus, between the often very different take on the look and the very different portrayals.
Of course, on the flipside, if the line/franchise draws heavily from G1, I expect it to be true to G1. IDW, while it borrowed from other incarnations, was very much a G1 universe, just a very (IMO) bad one. As were Dreamwave and the Netflix series. No G1 reimagining has captured the spirit of the original, so Hasbro should stop trying and get back to doing fresh takes like BW, RiD, UT, etc. All the NeoG1 is just poorly done overkill. I'm burned out on G1 and the media hasn't even been worth that burnout.
So here's a question should be asking, the new guy incharge of the movies at eOne is he or is he not a fan of Bayformers?
Well I like everything hasbro has been doing with g1 expect machinima series but to each their own.
You'd be surprised how some TF fan sites can offer opinions other sites wouldn't consider. I mean for example while most TF sites praise Prime for being among the best TF media this site basically sees Prime as being the among the worst made TF media that makes even Energon look great in comparison. It just goes to show that not every part of the fandom thinks the same way and this one's no exception.
Yeah you are right.
The Bayverse is dead and gone, plus the article says "a fresh start" or whatever so for better or worse we aren't going back and resurrecting dead continuities.
I'm hopeing they've decided to actually make MTMTE and Lost light into a cartoon...that would fit both comedy and into that lower decks level without going too crude. Plus plenty of inside jokes and G1 references.
Also David Tennant for Rungs voice
I'd rather IDW be left where I can easily ignore it.
G1 Rehash for you then I take it
Do you want Bayverse? Cause thats how you get Bayverse.
How about new ground? Or a revisit of BW, RiD, UT, Animated ... There's more than just G1. And IDW is "G1". Very bad "G1". One of the reasons I want to see something OTHER than G1.
Awful as Bayverse is, I'd still rather see it revisited than anything IDW.
I'm definitely not going to take lessons from someone that calls the only source of adult material for a decade or two terrible and slobs on Rescue Bots. We didn't ask for Siege to be joyless, but the next time we need a cat out of a tree to stop Unicron, we know who to call. The toy sales are fueled by whales, like almost any other collection property, no kid is making enough on their paper route to afford the whole wave, let alone wave after wave plus MPs and exclusives. There should absolutely be something for everyone, but it starts with keeping the core fanbase happy, the ones that kept the lights on for 35 years before investing in growth through new audiences. I want something for everyone, then maybe these pointless faction wars go away once and for all, that was my only point originally.
If I was in charge, I'd shoot for a tone similar to the MCU on a Beast Wars near shot-for-shot remake condensed into a trilogy of movies. Palette cleanser for the Bayverse, different enough to attract casual fans that learned TF movie = bad, and cleared the lane for a proper reboot of something more similar to what we got with Bumblebee. I'd have made the Siege show less dreary, and not created a path towards the beasts to avoid cross-contamination with my movie plan. G1 has the comics and tv, movies to bits of both for the next 3, and y'all can do whatever weird shit you're into for kids via Cyberverse, RiD with green Grimlock, and apparently the beloved Rescue Bots on the small screen.
Lovely. Both a jerkass IDW fan and an entitled "TFs should be for adults" fanboy. My "favorite" combination.
Once again, the core "fanbase" is and always has been the kids. If Hasbro were to market primarily to us, the franchise would quickly go under. The "new audience" you think doesn't matter is the future of the damn brand.
Don't bother responding - you're joining the "elite" exclusive club of my killfile.
After watching Cyberverse, I kinda liked it. It\'s not too childish. Its interesting enough to follow. Although, as a Prime lover, I would love more of that to come back. I can see comedy being a thing because G1 is kind of comedic. Just don\'t go overboard and PLEASE do not make Starscream the comic relief. Starscream fans are so done w/ that. I\'m not a huge Starscream fan and even I\'m tired of him getting the short end. Also, idk what can be so funny about two factions fighting in a civil war. That shit is painful. I would like something more deep where they realize that they are fighting themselves for different beliefs. Maybe you have a character that sees its wrong on both sides and they become buds. I love that shit. More Japanese style relationships. Enemies aren\'t really enemies, they have different beliefs that they fight with with their whole soul, screaming their dreams and fighting their apponent. It isn\'t about hating the other, its ceaselessly wanting them to understand their POV. Some end up following after seeing how passionate the other is, other times the opponent dies, but cherrishes the moment of the fight and doesn\'t hate the one that kills them, but appriciates the fire in their spirit.
What does transformers is getting a makeover mean?If they are making everything in the same continuity from now on that would be great.
It would be cool if the comedy is based on MTMTE/Lost Light. I know there are a lot of IDW haters, but the IDW run is the most critically acclaimed TF comic run.
Everything thats tried to be G1 but more "adult" (aka, edgy) seems to fail, so I'm down for MTMTE but more comedic. Certainly sounds more fun than the old gramps mentality of "back in my day G1 was for the cool kids and all the new stuff sucks".
I haven’t read enough of IDW to have a solid opinion of it, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it as well as a lot of bad. But even though I have not read all of IDW, I can’t help but feel the claim that every comic since G1 (and DW Armada) was awful seems really hyperbolic.
