This might be late, but why Laserbeak and Soundwave could enter the city in DOTM if they have energon detectors being put in every corners?

Shielding their signals? Hacked into them?

Definitely shielding their signals. And we specifically know they can do it since Starscream said the Autobots were doing that after rescuing Sam in Revenge of the Fallen.

Maybe the writers realized what a horrible idea the detectors were and just decided to ignore them. It wouldn't be the first time that something was ignored later on in the series.

I LOVE the energon detectors. Such a cool device in the third film and to see them at the ride was extremely COOL to me! We got a brief glimpse of them in use in AOE (why weren't they shown again when Optimus was parked right outside KSI? Please don't actually answer that). Then we see Cade has one at the junkyard which never got used (Why again? Oh well).

Energon detectors are another Bayverse plot-hole.

Soundwave and Laserbeak are spies, and they may have had human traitors assisting them on which detectors to avoid or in making defective detectors.

I thought the detectors only really benefited the human race, which proves how useless that turned out to be.

I think asking questions about bot energy signatures and detectors in any transformers iteration is probably not a good idea...

    they never make sense.

It does kind of cut into the logic of having an alt mode if all it can do is fool the most primitive of species. If it was just to get from point A to point B faster then everyone should just have a jet mode. It feels like going to the trouble of painting your tank in arctic camouflage just to drop it in the jungle where everyone could go there it is.

From a story telling point of view you miss opportunity to ramp up the tension of there is no way to know where the enemy will attack from until the moment they transform and attack. Way cooler if there is no machine the humans and Autobots can trust then when all you need is an Autobot or handheld device to tell you oh yea that car over there is Decepticon. If there was no way to tell what was a Decepticon then something as mundane as a full parking lot could become a scary place.

Yep, exactly. The paranoia aspect is one they could stand to play up more in all Transformers iterations set on earth.
There was even brought up in the first live action movie trailer with "our enemy can take any shape, they could be anywhere," but sadly that line got cut out of the final movie.

I don't remember them being outside KSI, but they were in the wide shot of the crashed Decepticon Ship. I don't remember any being in TLK.

No they weren't outside KSI but in DOTM it was established they were set up across the nation. Yes, we only see it once by the crash site in Chicago during Attinger's conference speech.

The only one seen in TLK is in Cade's Junkyard while he's calling his daughter.
