So more than a few of us have been collecting for a long time, and i was wondering how many of us are just sticking around because we are waiting for certain characters to get toys because we already have all the others, if so what toys are you waiting on. for me all the non g1 stuff i want is almost all but done a few studio series things like Blitzwing and devs, minus some beast mechine toys because the old ones where horrible but im not going to hold my breath for those characters. as for g1 i need a few that are coming this year snapdragon, scorp, and the quint stuff, but then its all just autobots, the trottlebots and pointblank and sureshot, then im done.
I'm gonna keep collecting until the last part of the currently trilogy is over. After that I plan on getting out of the game while keeping a watchful eye on what Hasbro put's out. 2022 will be the 20th anniversary of Armada and if they put some modern updates to Armada characters in the Generations line I may be inclined to get a few. But other than that I have no plans to collect beyond 2022.
Although I'm not sure I'd ever definitively call my collection "finished", there's definitely a lot less coming out these days that I feel like I need with Generations seeming restarting from 1984
I'm almost out of space entirely, so I'll need to take a step back from collecting sooner or later. That, or get bigger shelves. I'm getting bigger shelves.
I think I'm never gonna be "finished" with my collection so long as there are still transformers toys being released. I'll prob get to a point where I'm satisfied with my collection but I doubt I'll ever be "finished."
It’s a combination of lacking funds, space, and time. I’m certainly buying less. The major purchases in the near future are Scorponok and Sky Lynx. I may refocus on MPs later on. There are about 6-7 more I’d like. But, the end does feel near.
A thousand years ago, I collected comic books. I was a completionist, and it was more cost and work than fun for me. I decided that I didn't want to collect anymore, but I still wanted to read, and made that distinction, becoming a recovering completionist, only picking things I liked and read, and never thinking about it in terms of collecting again. Then, eventually, they priced me out of reading the physical books, switched over to digital sales and old runs I could buy on the cheap. I was already out of my completionist ways when I picked up Transformers again. I have a very loose collection, only buying what I really want, and as time moves on, I buy less. The "have to have" mentality with me, in regard to Transformers, essentially ended with the Wei Jiang MPP-10 OS Optimus Prime. It was the epitome of what I was looking for in my favorite character, and I have really felt that since then. I still buy things, but mostly for head-canon or customizing, and I only buy after research and sales. Collection-wise, the only real thing that bounces around in my head is to pick up a G1 Trailbreaker and maybe try to get the Diaclone multi-colors of that mould. There are things I'd like, but if I'm unwilling to pay retail and am in no hurry to get them... in terms of collection, I may be done.
The last few years have given me the definitive versions of a lot of characters such as Takara Legends Blurr, the Siege Seekers, Titans Return Sixshot, Full Tilt and Papa Toys Hot Rod. There are still dozens of characters I want but the overpriced exclusives and third parties put a lot of them into Grail territory. That said, in the last two years I've picked up a few grails I wanted for years such as Device Label Optimus Prime, Botcon Dreadwind and Botcon Double Punch. Among the characters I really want are: Siege Skywarp Siege Red Wing Selects Seacons Third Party Aerialbots Third Party Breast Force Third Party Dinoking MP Coneheads MP Artfire MP Star Saber Siege Omega Supreme None of those are cheap but I have picked up a lot great toys from retail in the last few years. I feel I have the definitive versions of most of the first three years of the G1 cast. Really looking forward to getting Fasttrack, Snapdragon and Scorponok.
Yes. I'm mostly done with Masterpiece Transformers. Save for: BW Airazor BW Inferno G1 Jazz Lines I have completed or close to complete: Ghostbusters Plasma - Done Gundam Universe - HA SL SR Marvel Legends - GG and WM Power Rangers Lightning Collection - MMPR Blue Star Wars Black Series - Done TBLeague - Nefertiti That covers it.
I'll be perfectly honest in that I'm largely out of the game myself. All the Earthrise stuff looks great - I just don't care. The only figures that I need to track down are the Battletrap Legends 2-part combiner and Skytread/Flywheels and pretty much I'd be good until the next original series in terms of Hasbro releases. And then once I get all the MMC D-Squad by the end of the year, I'm probably going to shift focus to my modeling since G1 really has worn thin on me.
Not even close. For CHUG there's still a ton of late G1 and G2 characters I want, which hopefully we'll get in the coming years.
While I've slowed down a lot now that I have house expenses to budget for, I do still collect. I'm just a lot pickier, especially with Hasbro charging higher prices for more basic figures. Unless it's a character that I actively collect different versions of (Prime for instance) the new figure has to be either a definite improvement or have something novel and interesting about it to get me to bite. I've only bought 2 Earthrise figures so far. Prime, because I collect Optimi, and Cliffjumper since it's like the third actual Cliffjumper Hasbro has done (i.e. not a red Bumblebee). Of course, the virus lockdown has contributed to that, but honestly, there's not a lot I find interesting in ER so far. Of course, the next line might be more interesting, so this is definitely subject to change. It isn't that I'm done collecting, I just want the gimmicks back. Or CHUG to widen its scope to beyond G1 again ...
It's the end of the road Galvatron! (sorry I had too) My transformers collection is slowing down, I need: The rest of the ER '84 bots Jazz Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge Omega Supreme Thunderclash Powermaster Optimus Prime Thunderwing Outside of those, I'll probably get Chug versions of the Beast Wars S1 Maximals and anything Animated related. While my Transformers collection has slowed down, I diving into DC, Black Series, Model Kits, and miscellaneous other stuff.
I completed everything G1 I wanted in ~2012... and also stopped cold turkey on all things TF in 2013. I came back in 2018, and I will say "no I'm not done" since Hasbro keeps pumping out updates and I basically have no self control. Although since I started dabbling in 3P and MP more over the past year, mainline stuff seems kind of like a waste of money and space (everything adds up real quick), so I've gotten a lot pickier.
I'm not sure I'll eventually have all the characters I want in Chug lilne. And Masterpiece style (much slower because of price hikes.) Really, I'll keep an eye out for cool versions that I like and buy them, so I'll never be done. Then again, my United Wheeljack is not getting replaced with Earthrise Jackie, so anythings possible. If I do get satisfied with the characters I have in all the scales I want, I will continue to collect every Hot Rod/Rodimus/Rodimus Prime I can get my hands on.
They'll keep making better versions of characters I like so I'll probably never be done upgrading my collection and switching out figures for the newest and hottest take. Been at this since I was 7 and I'm 34 now. Can't see myself ever getting out of this game lol I really only buy a handful of figures a year, so it's easy not to get fatigued.
I only really collect modern updates to G1, and Earthrise has literally given me practically everything I wanted. At this rate I'm close to the finish line and it feels great!
I don't think I'll ever be done collecting. A lot of people collect based on characters, I collect just based on figures that I like. I don't have any issue owning multiple figures of the same character, as long as they're all individually unique and fun. And I don't imagine Hasbro is ever gonna be done producing fun figures
