Anyone get this? Any good? I'm waiting for the full game myself, but i'm interested to see what the strat folks round here think of it if any of you have played. I'm hoping on this being the next legitimately worthwhile Star Wars game, were certainly overdue for one after the KOTOR2 debacle and the recent barrage of pointless ROTS cash-ins.
I got it a few days ago. I'm not too impressed yet. It has some good features, but with things not fully unlocked, it's tough to make a real decision. Two things though. 1 - Space Combat is not quite what I thought it would be, and that was highly disappointing. 2 - I really, really, really, really don't like the new LucasArts logo. Sure I've seen it before on the last two games to come out, but it's just not growing on me.
Totally un-impressed. I think the Star Wars hosre should be put out to pasture. (Save for a lightsaber game on the Revolution)
I liked it. I like being able to target hardpoints on starships. The ground combat is nice because you aren't constantly worrying about resources, that all happens *outside* the combat action. Which I am all for. Very tempted to buy the full game even though George Lucas can kiss my dangly bits.
Liking the sound of higher level resource management and force commitment. Is there any indication of how it all works (strategic mangement, points system, fixed allocation etc..) or is that undeterminable from the demo? As far as space combat goes, I was expecting somesort of single plane type job after the videos rather then a full 3D effort like Homeworld. Is that what it is? Theres more then enougth build-harvest-rush-repeat RTS games out there if your after more of the same old, some of them have Star Wars mods for them as well.
I thought it was quite good. My only few complaints would be: -looking at the Tech Tree screen, there doesnt seem to be alot of units or vehicles, I would have liked to see a few more EU ships or something added in. -I would like to have seen the galactic map done in sectors like in Supremacy/rebellion. Other than that, at the moment anyway, I think its pretty solid. The space battles are entertaining enough, as Twin Twist said, picking off hard points of space stations or cap ships make for tatical, or somewhat tactical gameplay. I dunno about you guys but for a mission pack they should attempt the clone wars, since that was more of full on conflict as to the hit and run tactics of the rebels, and I think diplomacy could then be a skill which could be added in. Anyway thats my two cents
Does anybody know where I can download the Demo For free? I play Age Of Mythology and Im tired of it. This looks like a good game to get into for me.
Check out "Force Commander," one of the older, C&C-ish Star Wars games. It came out before Generals and yet it has a fantastic design - everything is a 3-D model (i.e., polygons, not animated pixels) - and the gameplay is a lot of fun. You can only play the Empire in the single-player version of the game, but it's just so slick as a RTS game.
Ill be running the Zero Clan for this game. If anybody here does rated online games and want on the team let me know.
I've had this game pre-ordered for a while. Just from the early screenshots its looked astounding to me, hopefully they'll follow through and make the third Star Wars RTS a superb one.
It's fun. But it's most definately not "Rebellion", which makes me sad because "Rebellion" was teh awesome. One of the few games that never leaves my Hard Drive, and gets played at least a couple of times a month.
Rebellion/Supremecy is teh roxxor, that with a decent combat engine would be the best thing since sliced bread.
