Finally got around to completing this project, my full MP collection on display. Custom adjustable shelving I made myself with remote controlled LED lighting. I built each shelf from scratch and stained them to match the color palette of our house. I wanted the shelves to have a chunky appearance with full bottom pieces to conceal the adjustable brackets and the wiring for the lights. I ran the wiring for the lights through the adjustable wall tracks and up through the wall into the attic for the top row. I wanted everything to have a very clean and finished appearance. Previously I had four Detolfs, but just found they were too small and restrictive, especially when trying to display large figures. As for my collection itself, I'm going for MP representations for characters that appeared in seasons 1 & 2 or the cartoon and the 86 movie. At one point I had about 2500 figures encompassing everything from a near complete G1 collection up to current. It was too much though, there was never enough space, everything was crammed together, and tons of stuff just sat in plastic totes. I sold off everything but what you see here, and it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders! I'm so much happier with my collection now. The only characters lack now are: -the remaining Stunticons (currently have XTB Breakdown and Wildrider, however will probably end up with the Fans Toys versions) -the remaining Aerialbots (currently have Zeta Fireflight and Air Raid, again will probably end up with the Fans Toys versions) -the Protectobots -would like to see someone do MP style and scale Quintesson Court members including the Sharkticons and Allicons -would like to see someone do MP style human characters There several upgrades that will happen as well: -MakeToys Coneheads will replace the Yes Models -Fans Toys Quietus will replace XTB Eligos -Fans Toys Jabber will replace Unique Toys Blurr -Fans Toys Hunk will replace BadCube Brawny -Fans Toys Dunerider will replace XTB Arkose -Fans Toys Sheridan will replace BadCube Wardog -Takara Hound will replace Fans Toys Willis -MMC Autobot Tapes will replace KFC Autobot Tapes -XTB Neptune will replace ToyWorld Seaspray -Someone (for god's sake anyone!) will replace Fancy Cell Transportation Captain So obviously I've got a ways to go to realize my ultimate collection. Even with the additional characters I need I should have enough space, especially considering they are combiner teams that I will display in combined mode. Superion can go where I currently have the two Zeta Aerialbots, and there should be enough room on the other side of Omega for Defensor at some point. With a little rearranging the Decepticon shelf should be able to Menasor. That's how I hope it goes anyway.
Thanks, that something I went back on forth on for quite awhile. I just didn't feel any flight stand really gave a true sense of flight. Plus Seekers in jet mode are such space hogs, so hanging them has a twofold benefit. However I have found some wall mounted flight stands that look pretty promising and allow for three figure's to displayed off of one mount. So if I can make it work out I could have all three original Seekers on one and all three Coneheads on the other.
Thank you. These are the lights I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N59LOIS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The design works well because you can chain each light to the next and only end up using one remote controlled transformer to control them all. All the wiring is hidden inside the shelves and the adjustable tracking on the wall. I looked at a lot of different lighting options and considered battery powered so I wouldn't have to deal with wiring, but I knew messing with batteries would probably drive me crazy.
Stunticons merge to form..........er................never mind. Wasn't, and still not, sure how to incorporate this beast into my display. Might end up building a small separate free standing unit to match the shelves just for this and the 86 movie bots.
Have you eventually gotten these wall mounts? I have yet to properly display my MPs, and I am curious where to get something like that and how it would look! Also, nice display, and impressive collection!
Unfortunately no, I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm looking at the ones sold by @Chaotic Yeti, they're a bit pricey but look really nice. I'll get around to it one of these days, probably after the MakeToys Coneheads are fully released.
