He has no thigh swivels in robot mode, but he's pretty bulky and surprisingly complex. The tricky part is folding the robot mode legs for dino mode. My JP copy was missing the gun unfortunately. Not sure why the hasbro one looks so off besides to save $$$
He's... ok. Feels big for a deluxe and the styling and characterization is really cute. His sculpt conveys a lot of character. The transformation is fiddly feeling as getting the legs to fold up and align with the necessary pegs can be a trick given there are so many different joints that all need to be in the correct position at the same time and it's all fluid until you get it right. The back of his legs in bot mode are super hollow and I can't help but frown upon him for that but its overall a decent release.
Ooof, this one’s a bit of a stinker, even at $13. Starting with the robot mode because it’s… probably the better of the two? Maybe. He looks pretty accurate to the show other than colors, at least to my eyes. The two guns really don’t seem very Jawbreaker, so I envision them more as tonfas, and they live in the hands just like that. We’ll get into why we aren’t using the shoulder ports in a bit. He’s not big but he’s wide, and coming off of Aftermath his legs feel really limited in their articulation, despite having ball jointed hips, hinged knees and even a small ankle tilt. The lack of thigh swivel hurts this one badly. There’s not really a good place to store the tail, it can be a poor sword, a shoulder spike or just a tail. Transformation is fiddly, the first time you’re doing it there’s a bit of a “this cannot be it” factor, with the feet just jutting awkwardly out of the back, and the whole thing held in place by four very small tabs. You lower his robot mode head into his torso, and on mine that joint was scarily tight on the first transformation. Once you’re done you’re left with this. This is probably the worst and most cursed dinosaur mode I’ve ever seen. I know it’s fairly accurate to the show but good lord the feet and fists just hanging awkwardly out the back are horrendous. The guns/tonfas do help to somewhat conceal the fists, looking like pistons designed to give more power to a pounce or lunge. You can still use all the arm joints in the shoulder, or you can lock the shoulders in place with some very loose tabs. The forearms are a simple ball joint, they’re scrawny and weird. Okay, time for the elephant in the room. What the fuck is that head? Why does it have a man’s face? Why does it not have a snout? Why does its horizontal plane end at the eyes? I know it’s not a scientifically accurate Stygimoloch and that’s accurate to the show, but this is horrendous. He looks like the entire front half of his head just melted and he rolled with it. I’m usually a big fan of Nick Roche’s design work, and he was able to make a very traditionally satisfying dinosaur with Earthspark Grimlock, but I have no idea what reference material he was using for the dinosaur head here. How you look at this, and get that? I have no idea. I liked Jawbreaker, he’s probably my least favorite of the Terrans but he’s a good lad. If anything, the toys aesthetic issues are really down to following the source material. I knew I didn’t like his alt mode design before I bought this, but I thought maybe it would win me over in hand. It did not. I wouldn’t recommend this one, not even on sale. Bonus Goatman mode
