Note: I am not watching Earthspark, so I am not aware of who this character is, but I am a fan in general of post-apocalyptic altmodes, so I pre-ordered from Amazon and got this figure in today. First impressions are generally good - Aftermath comes somewhat mistransformed in box, and is smaller than I thought, about the same size as the other two Earthspark toys I have, the Thrash figure with the sidecar and the Night owl one. Aftermath is a better toy than those, for sure, and is pretty close to being a very good Transformer toy on its own. Robot mode has a fairly detailed head sculpt and apart from the hollow forearms looks and feels pretty good. He's ball jointed in the shoulders and elbows but also has forearm and thigh swivels, ankle tilt and double jointed knees, so he can pose well. In robot mode he wields a triangular-barreled Gatling type handgun, and you can use his tow arm and hook - separate pieces - as an arm mounted weapon. You can also fit the tow arm on the back, but it does not fold flush. You can fold the wrist down and give him a Lockdown style hook hand too. Transformation is nicely complex and satisfying, the shoulders form the hood and spiked bumper, the legs unfold to form the dual rear wheels, and the feet fold in and get locked into place by putting the gun piece between, so the end of the barrel is a tailpipe look. Tow truck mode is a fun combination of chibi and post apocalyptic, with spiky details and a tiny passenger cabin. The truck holds together well, the tow arm can raise and swivel a bit. All this in a pinky purple color that is a little better looking in person than in pictures. I feel like if someone upscaled this guy by 1 1/2 and maybe upgraded the lightweight plastic he'd be truly great. I feel like this one is worth the price, even if he doesn't really fit anywhere in my collection. He's a little goofy but feels like the better figures from Robots in Disguise such as Fracture. All the wheels move. My only real complaint is that I wish the backend tabbed together without the use of the weapon.
The wheels are a little too thin and cheap feeling, and pegged on, but they roll fine. I don't mind the cheat with the gun holding the back end together but I may get him an extra gun to use in truck mode. The more I transform it, the more I am impressed with the complexity and precision of the front end transformation. Tim
he looks great, but the second season of earthspark is such dogshit that it killed any hype i had for this guy
My notes: * Aftermath is one of those "not-so-big toy with big-guy proportions" in robot mode, which makes it seem smaller than it actually is. * Many of the articulation joints are weird, also serving the transformation. Shoulders kinda get in their own way depending on how you position them. Ball-joint elbows make the bicep swivels pretty redundant, and double-joint knees heavily break up the legs visually if they are bent. * Transformation is a little tricky to get right as you learn it, but does a lot of interesting & unusual stuff along the way. * Tow truck mode is pretty nice, though the tow hook assembly being mounted immediately behind the cabin roof looks odd. * Wheels come off looking thin in robot mode. Some extra black color in the legs would be welcome to make them look more like the tires, as in the show model (and the Japan version) would help. It may sound like I'm heavily critical, but overall, it's a rather solid and interesting figure as Earthspark deluxe toys go. It would probably look pretty sick if it was repainted in Junkion earth-tone colors too.
Probably my favorite new mold from this line, surprisingly complex even though it's supposed to be "cheaper" than mainline and he at least looks nice and bulky with a unique alt mode.
Pretty cool figure and feels like it punches well above most of his mates in the Earthspark series. Love the styling of it in both modes. His bot mode is big and menacing looking with no super egregious hollow spots like some of the earlier figures and decent articulation. The transformation is fun, unique, and interesting and as a bonus has nice built in weapon storage/integration. Not much to say about the truck mode except it looks good, its solid, and I love the colors and the retro styling. It's a pity that the early deluxe waves were, IMO, pretty weak by comparison to Thrash and this guy.
Fun little figure! I don't have any other Earthspark figures and have never seen an episode of the cartoon (and I have absolutely no interest), but this figure looked neat and I figured what the hell and grabbed it on a whim. He'll fit right in with the rest of the Star Raiders/pirates in my collection since they're already a bunch of random weirdos anyway.
Did not expect ankle tilts on an Earthspark figure, Got this guy for $14 on Amazon, well worth that price.
I like the alt mode a lot, but getting him into it was a huge pain. He feels cheap and mushy and it barely tabs together. He feels like he'll burst apart at any moment.
Got this one in the Amazon sale and yeah $13 feels about right. You’re still looking at a noticeable step down in quality from a standard deluxe with a figure that just feels oddly mushy whenever you touch it. Starting with vehicle mode, he’s way more chibi that I’d have liked. I don’t remember if he was that drastically cartoonified in the show, but he looks more like an old cartoon depiction of a truck than anything else. It’s not bad, it’s just stylized in a way that doesn’t really work for me. It feels quite wobbly and the rear section is just held in place by light friction, coming apart very easily and accidentally. The cab likes the pop up and the arms easily lose their tab connection to the main body. You can stow the gun on the back, and you can adjust the hook arm at the base, and the attachment for the hook, which is nice. Transformation is my favorite part of this guy, with the legs being particularly good, and I like the way the backpack comes together in a very organized manner. He’s not a big guy, which I do believe is a significant departure from the show. At least the little bit I’ve seen of the second season seems to depict him as a big boy. He’s decently posable, even packing both an ankle hinge and a swivel, very surprising for the kids line. You can put the gun in his hand or on his forearm. The back of the gun is oddly molded, it almost seems like it’s supposed to attach to a friction hinge but I can’t find one that fits, it’s far too small to replace the hook assembly, or either fist. Maybe it’s just how it’s designed. Anyway, for $13 he’s not bad, but if I’d spent the full $20 retail I’d feel a bit cheated. He’s easily the better of the two new deluxes for this wave, but that’s a pretty low bar considering his wavemate.
