I picked up an Earthrise Wheeljack a few weeks back and upon opening him up, I instantly felt he was lacking for the cost. One shoulder gun, huge leg gaps, squared off wings and in car mode, bulbous 5mm port supports and an unsightly gap in the back under the wings. Robots78 did a fantastic job on the wings and he made an awesome set of wrenches for him. My goal is to fill the unsightly gaps and make this figure more of what we should have gotten. Once done I plan to fill the print lines and make the parts smooth and then mold these from white plastic. So far this is what I have for the back of the car mode.

And here are the same filler pieces stored in 2 different ways.

More to come as I finish other parts.

I ilke how you made the 5mm peg support flush. Did you sand it down? What grit? I'm worried about damaging the paint on the back.

I used a Demel tool to get it close and then 400 grit paper. It is still rough but I will be repainting the whole figure once some repro labels get produced.

A small update but a worthy one I think. If you look at the above photos of the filler panel you will notice in car mode there is a clip that poked up too high. I have resolved this issue in the design as you can see in the following photos.

I also spun the peg mounts 90 degrees. So if you like the filler pieces in place behind the head, they will look fine there, or if you want to move them to the alt location on the back of the legs, there is now a peg system to hold the accessories I plan to include in my kit.

My goal it to get all filler panels to function in both modes and as many accessories as possible also store in both modes.

Small update. I am working on the leg filler panels but I am not happy with it yet. I have figured out how I want them to connect. Debating on if I want them to stay in place when transforming or keep it simple and pop it off and on for both modes. Either way, they wont be parts filling a drawer.

Are you planning on redoing the paintjob to look more like the Atalita G1 livery?

The paint will depend on what Toyhax comes up with for labels. I do not plan to produce any of that.

I have. I bought his design and I am working on it now to make the leg fillers work better. I gave him some notes to work on as the kit needs some tweaks to be correct and that will help me move faster, but that was 2 weeks ago. I may start making adjustments on my own so I gan move forward with the kit.

Yeah i was gunna say i wondered if it would give you room to work with not having those windshield parts in the legs in the way. how are you coming with the leg fillers anyway?

Earthrise Wheeljack might have short legs but it could be worse...

Maybe try making G1 toy accurate arms (just kidding)

To be honest, I stopped when I bought his kit and started making revisions to his kit because there are some gap issues with the hood filler, the windshield is too narrow and tall and the roof is too fidgety with all of the parts. There was no hole for the windshield pin to go through and when I made one, it would split the plastic because it is too thin being as separate parts like that. You can always make the hole larger but then it makes it loose. The design is a good start but needs refinement. I started doing that to make sure it is viable for my leg fillers to work out. I am back to working on the leg fillers now though because the original designer of the windshield kit said he was going to make my adjustment suggestions. I am working on the hinge and tabbing on parts at the back of the leg so the filler does not have to come off once you put it on.

That's funny. I have a fully articulated G1 Wheeljack I started on years ago. I need to blow the dust off of him and see about 3D printing some new parts instead of kit bashing like I had been.

That would be cool to see. I think G1 Wheeljack could be fixed with longer, telescoping legs. (and a couple of balljoints in the usual places for articulation.
