Unfortunately it's not just the wave and the line, it's all Leader class figures. But if they were able to scan astrotrain no problem, then that's a good sign, and if Prime scanned properly as well, then theres a chance the system is fixed. I'm hoping so at least.

 

It’s not, after I got denied this morning a friend of mine tried his luck at the same Target as they’d just put it right back on the shelf. He tried this method without success. Astrotrain would scan but the staff wouldn’t let him scan Astrotrain twice for the sale so he left them both.

Im guessing maybe because Astrotrain isn’t in wave 2 he scans fine but Optimus is so he’s being tagged for the same nonexistent street date as Doubledealer

 

So the issue is the specific case/wave. At which point the resolution is a store-to-store situation. Some appear to be fine doing the scan/swap and others are like "No we can't do that."

And that's fine. Some stores probably got bit by leadership for allowing it and others maybe haven't had the same issue yet.

No Optimus prime was street dated 9/01

 

I got rejected at 2-3 Targets over Optimus. It was to keep him packaged as I already have him so wasn't real upset, but still annoying. Doubledealer is by far my most anticipated of what I have seen revealed but not even bothering again at Target anymore.

A fellow board member found this guy at our target today, but street date is 9/1. They moved them to the back. Bummer

 

99% of the time upper management will never know or care if stores went ahead and sold Doubledealer or not, nor will they worry over fixing it. It's just one of those "it will resolve itself eventually" problems that employees have to face at Target every once in awhile.

Anyway, mine is arriving tomorrow from Amazon, so at least with them there's no need for tricks. Hopefully he shows up at Wal-Mart soon because there likely won't be any issues there, either.

 

All of this. I didn't even know there was a cartoon, as a kid; all I had was the toys and a couple of books. Doubledealer, Reflector, the Insecitcons, Skorponok, the G2 Dinobots, Punch/Counterpunch, Defensor, Computron, the Seacons, Menasor, Repugnus, etc etc -- all of them I know and love from the toys.

 

Was trying to decide between ordering Dead Prime or grabbing a regular one at retail. Seems like I made the right choice going with Dead Prime.

 

I found Doubledealer today at my Target (Spokane WA) and I tried to buy it but they said it\'s not supposed to even be on the floor until September. 

 

No they wont. Retail employees wont care nearly enough to do anything more than say the register says no. Especially right now.

Hasbro needs to work with Target at a level that can figure out what the heck is making this such an issue.

Because product is getting to Target and they're not selling it. That creates a choke point and screws up distribution.

 

Was anyone able to buy Doubledealer at Target today *without* having to scan Astrotrain and/or get a manager override? Just curious.

So weird I got my Optimus Prime earthrise months ago through Best Buy

 

I know on their webpage it says styles may vary and I've seen the reviews saying that some people got shipped Astrotrain instead of OP. Were you able to call the store at all and confirm it was Optimus before picking him up?

 

I saw the same response I took a chance knowing that there was a good possibility I could have gotten him I needed both but I wouldn't have been disappointed if I got Astrotrain but it was nice cuz I was at the store and I just could have easily just said nope don't want it I was in the store I found grapple at the same time
