My point exactly! It's such shame they reverted to Earth mode THIS quick, when we were THIS close to having the original ARK crew in Cybertronian form. Biggest Offender is Wheeljack who was one of the few characters in original cartoon to have a Cybertronian alt mode. He would've gone so well with Tetrajet Seekers. :(

Soundbarrier makes a better shield than any of Soundwave's cassette micromasters did.

Hasbro Pulse says March 1 and Amazon says March 31. As for store shelves, I'd guess some might possibly creep out in February at the earliest.

Soundbarrier turns into a - track chunk .... yay? (no, it's a 'shield')
Ironworks is OK, but I'm already a little burned out on the Weaponizer concept, and have no connection to the old Micromaster playsets. Maybe I'll pick it up if it looks nice in a store.
Hot Rod Patrol - I'm here for Big Daddy - everyone else can go to hell. :)
Military Patrol - Two faves from one of my favorite G1 Micro patrols. Yes please.

Cliffjumper - Looks decent. Looks like a re-shell into Bumblebee is on the way. I like the accessories, but it doesn't excite me much overall.
Hoist - Looks very Hoisty. That's all I can really say about it.
Wheeljack - Looks nice. I'm impressed the car mode actually looks like a Lancia. It looks like it should, though that doesn't excite me that much. I feel sorry for those who were hoping for a Cybertronian 'hover-brick' version too.

Grapple - Looks about as Grapple as any Grappel that ever Grapnel'd. The 'UFO Catcher' claw accessory looks fun.
Starscream - Some might not like that it's apparently a updated upsize of the '06 Classics design, but I'm plenty happy with it, if it works in hand as well. Bring on the endless Seeker and Conehead repaints/remolds

While I can enjoy these figures. I share some of the concerns others have voiced about how "pure G1" these toys are getting. It's less about variety and innovation, and more about distillation. Here's a new Optimus that's more "Optimus" than the last Optimus, which was more "Optimus" than the one before it. Not everyone liked the Cybertron modes or the 'grunge' of Siege', but I found them visually interesting at least. I just hope it doesn't spiral itself into the ground with repeated slight variations of the same characters over and over, like some line have done - G.I. Joe post-25th Anniversary comes to mind.

The thought has crossed my mind in the past, but not so much now. IMHO their toy chops have been at the top of their game.

Yes, they're going back to G1, but all told, it's felt like a Renaissance. I would argue it started with the Prime Wars trilogy, not just getting the chunkier gimmicks (CW being one they once said they'd never go back to) out of their systems, but also a shift in how they approached the toyline. Before CW, generations had no focus, when it wasn't rubbing elbows with the current comics. What was the design identity of any of those phases in CHUG? We know there were changes, and experiments, but can you really describe a theme besides when they did this batch of characters?

The Prime trilogy explored using gimmicks to define each line and size class. WFC is using a story. Yes it was always under the G1 umbrella, but they dug up more obscure characters than all of CHUG did with access to everybody.

My hope of hopes is when this story is over, they decide to take the lessons and skills they've learned to tell other stories. Maybe a look at other eras, since tv and movies will always have their own lines to explore something new.

I believe Warden or someone from Hasbro at NYCC confirmed Cliffjumper won't be repainted/remolded into Bumblebee.
However, I think Bloodhunter may be correct:

They're confirmed to be re-releasing astrotrain in both Siege and Earthrise packaging as a transitional fig.

Huh. I guess that would be the case. But it makes me wonder, if they instead made an new mold for Runamuck and had pretooled parts for Runabout? (Or Vice-versa.)
