I've had this Grapple for a few days now and I'm really enjoying him, as my first experience of Earthrise it matches with what I've been feeling about Siege, really decent sculpted detail begging for a little extra paint here and there.

I have no attachment to Grapple in any way but I've always been preferential to him having a black head sculpt, it just helps break up all of the orange, really easy to do.

Grapple's head is on a swivel joint, so after taking it off I used a craft knife to separate the two head pieces (wasn't difficult) and sprayed his head with GW Abaddon Black, used GW Grey Seer to paint over his face (with a wash of GW Apothecary White contrast paint over the top) used GW Temple Guard Blue for his eyes. I also used Vallejo Magnesium for various small details and panels over his body too. I also added a better Autobot repro symbol on his chest to make it stand out better.

Some pictures with my custom POTP Inferno (added extra pieces since I posted it on here) I now realise I need to readjust the settings on my phone as it doesn't seem to over saturate the colours of figures. I don't think I'll pick up the probably-inevitable Inferno remold of Grapple, but would probably cave for an Artfire redeco of an Inferno figure.

Nice work, makes him look more like his G1 self. Also breaks up the orange

Nice paint job. Grey looks a little dark. I personally think an off-white looks good with the black head. I might try this on one of my Grapples.

Nice work. I've always preferred the black helmet too. Be nice if the face was more like the G1 toy than the cartoon.

Personally, i liked the cartoon orange helmet. But as emgo says its your toy display how you want. Lol that being said, i think the paint job looks excellent. Ive not been able to get the clean look down yet with shapeways add on parts or accessories. Maybe my sanding is off, maybe its cause i have a little shake in my hands so brushes and pens kind of frustrate me. Just picked up an airbrush so as soon as i set up a spot for it im hoping that helps as i can mask off areas with tape easier than i can getting fine details with a brush the size of a toothpick. ;)

Gotta admit that does look a bit nicer. His head doesn't get "lost" in that orange like a bag of oranges, tangerines, and clementines :D

So, when you take the head apart, is the face a separate piece from the helmet? Or, do you have to mask the face/helmet? Looks great!

The face is attached to the front of the head, I was repainting it anyway so sprayed the whole piece but I guess you could tape it off, might be tricky though.

Wow, really nice work Lockdown91. And after my own first attempt at a detailed re-paint, I can definitely appreciate your fine work. Mine didn't come out as I had hoped. Anyways, I gave it a shot-- not really knowing how to use paint, primers, brushes, etc. But I'm learning through my mistakes.

I just joined the Earthrise Grapple train and am looking to do a little paintwork to his head too. I was just wondering though, is the head glued together like Optimus Prime's head ? If so, how do I go about separating it?
