It’s an iconic 80s action movie, and I imagine Hasbro is doing these with hopes of extending the brand to other nostalgic properties like what Funko does with their Pops (on a more limited scale) - these are aimed both at TF fans AND non TF fans that fans of the movies and would think this is fun/cool: somebody posted upthread that their brother demanded they get him one.

I’d imagine it’s to accommodate the geometry of a new alt mode since the tape door seems exactly the same.

If Hasbro's going to extend crossovers even into other eras such as Beast Wars I'm hoping we can have some figures that turn into Star Wars beasts as well as even Pokemon.

While I agree the F-14 is Iconic, that slot is already owned in TF culture by the GiJoe Sky Striker. Also, my point is Top Gun lacks a continuity. KITT on the other hand has plenty of fiction to include several bodies and even a nemesis in one episode. As corny as the Ghostbusters crossover fiction was, at least it was sci-fi related. I would hate to see a comic with a young Tom Cruise hanging out at a diner with his girlfriend finding out his jet is a Transformer. No...just no !

I really wish the guy who has these figures fully transformed each of them. But now I'm wondering if he just "borrowed" them, and he had to return them, IDK.

There that picture is! It got deleted when someone posted it yesterday. Now I can tell for sure both heads are the same. Excellent.

I don’t like the grunge on the Tomcat, and I’m not really sure it is the correct shad of gray? I always thought of Tomcats as having a cool gray vs. a warm or neutral gray.

Seeing new stuff is fun...but I honestly wish more of it could be saved for an official and thorough reveal. Who knows...maybe there’s still a bunch of stuff yet to be seen...but some of the conventions were spoiled early last year by these leaks. This would be like my sister opening my presents on Christmas morning and telling me what I got before having the chance to discover it for myself. Hopefully some surprises remain!

    I was wondering about that.

So am I the only one who wants Maverick to be a Titanmaster?

Something worth paying attention to: Top Gun is a Paramount production, much like Transformers.

So, as with IDW/Ghostbusters, there's a common footing that likely made this possible.

There are lots of Top Gun fans in every Fandom because it was the first VHS that cost $19.99 so for a lot of people it was their first VHS and the only one for some time. See this video for more information.

This has to be one of the strangest takes I’ve ever read. You’re actually implying that TF fans don’t like Top Gun because it’s a “human movie”? You think we only like fiction involving robots?

I didn't even know what Top Gun was. It seems like such an out there thing to crossover transformers with. Like they filled an hat full of series' names and just picked one at random.

That is the BEST IDEA I have heard in a while. I have wanted to an Acklay, Nexu, and Reek. I thought they would make great beast-formers. A Rancor would be cool. Pokemon would be awsome. The only down side would be which pokemon to do. If they did pokemon, I would hope they make it a vote of which pokemon they did.
That would was a funny picture in my head.

Agreed on both counts. I'm honestly pretty surprised a Pokemon transformers line wasn't made before given that having a Pokemon figure that transforms into a robot would be a great seller for both the Transformers and Pokemon fandoms. Not to mention that if HasTak wants to continue doing more Star Wars and Transformers Crossovers it'd make sense to also tackle beasts. Especially if they dish out a Rancor Transformer.

Honestly Maverick just looks like a retooled and repainted version of the GiJoe Starscream from SDCC 2011.

These crossover toys aren’t aimed at Transformers fans though, we’ll buy Transformers anyway. These toys are designed to be targeted at very casual fans of 80s pop culture, those who remember them when they were a kid but are now adults or those who liked Ghostbusters/Top Gun to buy as a novelty, then once they buy it the aim is to get them hooked on buying more regular Transformers.

It couldn't be if it's a Transformer. The Starscream was essentially a "repaint" of the Skystriker, and it would be bigger than a Voyager if I am not mistaken.
