It's not, there's a mushroom peg under there holding the shoulder and arm on

Before you guys get all hot to trot and start drilling into Mirage's shoulder, looking to strike oil, at least consider a pack of Nonnef's adapters.

The added articulation, alone, is worth it.

I've been thought experimenting with that notion in my head, and the main issues as I envision it are, firstly getting the centring exactly right, secondly, were one to successfully drill through the top & channel into the top of the mushroom peg as one would need to just how fragile would it make that connection (and it may also loosen that transformation joint) if indeed it doesn't ruin it entirely, and thirdly that that position wouldn't look quite right as it's at least a good centimetre further forward of the Siege mounting point, myself I wouldn't like the back of it being so close to his head (no one wants their face that close to a rocket launcher exhaust :p ), it'd look like a bit of an odd overhang to me.
I'm hoping we get a nice 3P add-on armature-style mount for his back, or arm back, port, with a hinge to give ol' (New) Mirage the proper upward angle of the G1 'Toon model, which even Siege can't do (without extra bits). I'd prefer a dedicated extra part with a bit more sympathetic styling to Nonnef's rather (to my eye) somewhat ungainly adaptors.

Interesting, for me the biggest issues are the Cybertronian wheels not fitting the aesthetic of vehicle mode, and the arms that still don't cut it in either mode. Losing the shoulder peg is a disappointment, but it doesn't kick me as much as those other, more central figure elements.

Those really bother me too, I'm trusting that someone will make a replacement set of wheels like they did for ER Ironhide and Ratchet.

Pray tell, where might one acquire these miraculous contrivances?

One might acquire these miraculous contrivances from this humble purveyor of goods. Just pick up the 5 mm peg adaptors, they're sold in sets of 6. The one that's actually labeled Mirage is specifically for the "Stealth mode" Mirage from the Fan's choice pack, so they're cast in a translucent blue.

Naw, not double dipping for these minor improvements. I do think it looks a little better, but not enough to justify another purchase for me.

Yes, just as the two earlier posts said, they're made and sold by Nonnef.

The ones I'm using on Decepticon Mirage are the 5mm Peg Adapters - 90 Degrees type - in black.

Two of them put together make a terrific universal joint for full left-right, up-down motion.

You might also notice in my photos I pegged a third adapter onto Mirage's leg to holster his pistol. :)

5mm hole into that joint is probably way too big and will destroy it - better idea is to do something like a 2mm hole and add a new corresponding 2mm metal post into the bottom of the existing peg. Even better, a dedicated adapter that can stay on the launcher.

The noneff adapters are good for other things but you would need a whole daisy chain of them to get from the hole on back to the top of the shoulder proper. It would be wasteful and look stupid.

I feel like Eartrise would have been a great place to put a nice voyager-sized Ironhide who had his detachable "Onebox Component," but maybe updated with places to fit extra weapons and a way to connect them to the Modulators. I wouldn't have even cared if it was just the Siege version with a few minor details changed with a shell of a van wrapped around the thing...

Ok. I’m feeling 100 times better about Kingdom Mirage now. I already have an extra weapon from Netflix Bumblebee and my friend gave me an extra weapon from Siege Sideswipe. I’ll use whichever piece that will look the best with Kingdom Mirage. I can’t deal with G1 Mirage not having his iconic shoulder missile and now I won’t have to deal with it.

Love him and Grimlock. This two pack was a weird itch that was scratched and came out of no where aside from wingfinger, g2 ramject, wreckgar, and black zarack I was almost out. I wanted the ark, but i might pass on it.

The foax chest didn\'t bother me on siege mirage as it was supposed to be a Cybertronian vehicle which sure can have identical ends, but here it really bugs me....totally cheats the transformation for no reason.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do. I got this for Grimlock anyway.

A cursory glance of Mirage's past toys would indicate that his figures having the shoulder launcher is the exception rather than the norm. So while I totally understand and even share in the disappointment that he's missing the shoulder ports, that isn't stopping me from getting and enjoying this figure.
