In all fairness, he's probably just used to writing Joe miniseries where they do exactly that.

thats a pretty big gaping hole, the earth is going to die if they continue.............they continue but nothing else happens ? LOL

I would have liked to have seen that whole sublot not only animated but continued to be honest though.

 

Precisely, he just recycled the same story structure over and over and over:

• Start a battle with minimal setup and no real motivation
• Introdump the new characters through the fight
• Have the battle be resolved with the villains retreating
• Only then introduce the actual main villain and establish them as a threat
• Have a second battle, usually with the good guys taking a beating
• Split the heroes off into three or more groups, usually to find and assemble pieces of the MacGuffin
• Have two members of one group end up trapped "behind enemy lines" and have to make their way back, aided by a mysterious new friend they meet along the way
• Spend most of the runtime bouncing erratically between these various plots until the heroes are finally back together
• Then, having had 100 minutes to play with, cram the final battle into the last 6 or 7.
• End on a goofy comedy beat.
