    Early G1 combiner designs

Episode 12: Scramble my what?!? - NTFA Forums

This is a piece that I've had on the backburner now for more than 1½ years. Originally intended as a short article for the eventually cancelled Auto Assembly Europe 2012 convention magazine, the article just grew and grew and would have taken up most of the magazine, being almost 20 pages long! So I decided it probably wasn't the best place to have it. I've been trying to find another suited venue for it ever since and am now presenting it here in (initially) 2 installments. There is a LOT of additional material for this subject that I'd like to present as well, but I haven't had the time to write that yet. So for now I would like to present to you part 1 of a look at some of the earliest original designs for the Transformers toy line.

    Hope you like it. :)

    UPDATE: Here's part 2 of 2: http://www.ntfa.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5792

Great stuff, that pre-production Superion-art was new to me, which doesn't happen often.

I love when this fandom deep-dives. There is still a lot of treasure to be found.

Looking forward to the Stunticon update!

Thank you all for your kind words. :)

Part 2 is in preparation for online viewing, but I think I'll drag out the suspence a little bit before it goes public. ;)  But no worries: It'll probably be in a week's time or somesuch.

@ Maz: Careful with that plurality; I've only got 1 more part to share. :D  But who knows what the future'll bring? ;)

my favorite thing about the article is the promo art for superion.

I very much love seeing stuff like this for the very first time like tonight. it makes me feel 7 years old back in the 80's all over again. :)

such a badass painting of Megatron too.

Yeah, that's an awesome picture. Found it in my TFC #0 Convoy's packaging.

I love all the other little neat things in there besides Funky Supes, like the blue Bluestreak (which by 1985/1986 should be offically grey by this point), the red and black Skids, and then that nifty rocket ship army-builder guy above Supes' head. Anyone know anything about that one? Doesn't look familiar to me...
