http://ps3.ign.com/articles/851/851473p1.html Looks like I'll be without an NFL game for at least another 4 years.
That is ****...I was really looking forward to 2ksports getting back in the mix. I have Madden 08 and I still feel like they haven't gotten to the state that 2k1 (best fb gm made imho) was when it came out.
I am not into sports games that much. But I feel bad for those who are, this situation can only breed mediocrity.
QFT. This is a damn shame. Madden games used to be the best because they really were the best. That is so long ago now that it seems like ancient history. We are at a point in time where EA could literally come out with a model where they charge customers $10 or $15 for updated rosters from last year's game. Instead, they are going to charge everyone $60 for a disc with last years game on it that has updated rosters. It makes me all the more sick that it's not really last year's game, but much older than that. Only the graphics have received upgrades. I can't believe that in 2005 we had NFL2K5 which looked better than Madden, arguably played better than Madden, and inarguably had more features than Madden (custom touchdown songs? -hell, yeah!), and it cost $20! In the face of such competition did EA innovate? Did they make a better game? Nope, they used their wallets to kill NFL2K. I can't wait until EA releases the sales numbers on how huge a hit the new Madden is -as if there is any competition.
I never really cared much for sports games, but I was interested in playing madden 2k7 when my friend picked it up for the ps3, till we found out for some dumbass reason EA limited it to 2 players(wtf?). The madden games are a travesty, and the only reason why it's so popular is because of the licensing with no actual competition.
yeah, it was great that it was $20...but once the next-gen systems game out, there was no difference between prices between the sports games ($60)... ...i still peferred the PS2 version of 2K games over the PS3/360 just because of the cost
2K5 (any 2K football, really) Was awesome, Damn shame that EA is monopolizing this Madden crap. I know I won't buy it.
EA's is not monopolizing the NFL. It was the NFL that wanted their license exclusive to one company. You want to bitch about the exclusive license, bitch about the NFL. I'm no big fan of EA, but they just won the contract. They didn't ask the NFL for exclusive rights.
I'm not singling out EA for the license problem, I'm aware that it was the NFL. My problem with EA is that they've been releasing a turd that they just try to polish a little bit more every year. At the same time the NFL knew damn well which publisher had the money and was going to get it, and that they'd get more that way than individual licenses like they used to do.
Makes me glad I'm not much into sports games, it really does. I like arcade style games and all, but the realistic ones (y'know the ones that are out every single year with little more than a new roster, which means shit all to me [aka I have no idea why people pick up the games year after year, but I digress]) just do not appeal to me. Sorry for those of you this does effect though.
