Switch is doing far better for exclusive content then the PS4 was for it's first 3 years, remember Knack and The Order 1886?

Plus it's so fucking obvious that it shouldn't even be necessary to point out, but it's the first time that most of the older games on that list have been on a Nintendo system or a handheld platform and there is a substantial market of people that only buy Nintendo systems and/or like having games in a portable form.

Not to mention that in the Switch's native Japanese Market, apparently, it's ripping the PS4 a new asshole financially and so Japanese companies (and some western companies) like Capcom, Konami, Sega, and even Nintendo themselves would of course want to port and/or rerelease as much of their older games for the console as possible.

I'm not saying anything about them being on a Nintendo system, just that it seems a little excessive to be bringing 5-10 year old games to the Switch. It feels like companies are being lazy rather than making new games, especially RE5 and RE6. What next, Devil May Cry 1 comes to the Switch? :lol

To be fair, companies are making new games and re-releasing old ones, which isn’t a bad thing, especially if you’ve never owned the consoles they were originally on. Also, it’s not like the Switch is the only platform to receive old games as well.

There’s no denying some companies are being lazy (looking at you, EA), but some are great like Ubisoft, who released a third party game that was exclusive to the Switch within the first year (Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle). You also some companies who are releasing Switch games we’d never though we would see be released like Mortal Kombat 11 and Doom Eternal.

They're easy ports and they keep on selling no matter how many times they release them, they'd be stupid not to and keeping catalog titles permanently available is more important now then it has ever been.

Porting old games has negligible effect on the production of new ones at companies the size of Capcom and Sega, they don't even do it internally allot of the time.

Weren't you asking for Onimusha 2 earlier? That's 7 years older then RE5 and sold like a quarter as many copies as the latter did on it's original platforms.

Basically it boils down to “this isn’t for me so therefore it’s dumb”.

Yes, I'm asking for a remaster of Onimusha (and Legacy of Kain), but that's for a system that has plenty of new and old games I play. The Switch only has two exclusives I want to play out right now.

So releasing a 10 year old game on Switch is excessive because you don't own a Switch, but releasing a 17 year old game on PS4 isn't because you do own a PS4?

I think part of it is Sony has, for whatever bizarre reason, started having companies censor their Japanese games to match standards over in the West. Nintendo's policy is to not care as long as it isn't their own, first party, games. NoA may request changes, but NoJ doesn't care. I call it bizarre, because Nintendo's old, heavy handed practices, were part of what made them susceptible to Sony's PSX originally.

It's kinda funny how Nintendo's become the cool kid and Sony's become the dork when it was the opposite in the 90s.

The Japanese market shifted heavily towards handhelds last gen and Switch is inheriting the massive combined user base of both 3DS and Vita along with what was left of Nintendo consoles. I'm sure the lack of censorship is driving a bit of business, particularly with the old Vita crowd, but I wouldn't be attributing the vast majority of it's massive success to being the platform of choice for tits and lolis when it's the platform that has all new Nintendo games and a rapidly increasing share of JRPGs.

No, the Switch right now appears to be 30% new and 70% old. It should be reversed, no less than 50/50.

But why exactly? It has the same amount of new games coming out as usual, a shit ton of genuinely great indies, and then a load of ports.

Like... you don’t even own the console pal, what difference does it make to you? There aren’t any developers deciding to not to make new games just because they’re releasing ports, it’s easy money for them and a ton of people who haven’t owned a console in years are enjoying the rereleases. If a port from Capcom, for example, sells well, the platform becomes a viable option for new games.

I honestly don’t get the bitching here, just feels like they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

From what I hear, that "bizarre reason" probably has to do with them moving their Playstation headquarters from Japan to San Francisco, which is bizarre in itself.

Like was pointed out, it's not just regular "loli and boobs" stuff. They moved to San Francisco, and are letting them dictate to Japanese developers. Besides, do you really want to argue with G, the Cat of Death? :p

Because I also called the PS4 out for doing the same thing back in 2014.

Because I want a reason to feel that I need to go out and buy a Switch.

My point still stands- if the ports weren’t there the line up of new games would be the same (and may I say, 2 years in, are very strong anyways). They don’t just think “let’s cancel this new game and release something old”. You’re demand just comes across extremely selfish.

Complaining about the Witcher 3- I’ve never played it, i’ll be buying it on switch because it’s portable (depending on if it runs well).

So you think that Nintendo should start refusing to certify third party games based on arbitrary age-related quotas?

Because pissing off publishers, having less consumer choice and making less money from platform fees would result in less new games.

I wasn't really passing comment on Sony's censorship itself, just that I don't think that it's driving the vast majority of Switch sales in Japan when you look at what the top selling titles out there are.

It makes sense that they're running Playstation in general out of America now since the majority of that operation and it's customers are in the west at this point, but they are blatantly missing the point of prioritizing markets in the first place when they aren't letting Japan make decisions based on their own conditions. They're also doing an utterly terrible job of enforcing whatever content standards they think they want on the platform since they are obviously making it up as they go along and mostly targeting specific publishers.

If that starts significantly hitting the bottom line of Japanese developers and it gets to the point where everybody in Japan with a PS4 also has a Switch, that absolutely is going to blow up in Sony's face.

While it's not there yet, with Switch outselling the PS4 lifetime now in Japan... that's a -very- real possibility.

I see you've met Dr. Kain. He doesn't typically mean ill, but he's infuriatingly dismissive of anything that doesn't fit within his narrow fields of interest.
