Seriously, fuck the morons running NIS for sinking the company chasing a market they didn't have deep enough pockets to compete in.

I hope NIS America gets picked up by somebody since they do a load of work for other companies without western branches.

What is NIS? I’ve honestly never heard of it.

Nippon Ichi Software, a Japanese developer and publisher that's been around since the mid 90s and largely specialises in JRPGs. Their US branch also does translation and publishing for other smaller Japanese devs like SNK, Falcom and Chunsoft.

Ah, that’s why I don’t know. I have zero attachment to that genre.

I’m sure that’ll happen one of these days. This E3 has examples of games being released to the west for the first time in years, or unlikely ports actually happening, like Phantasy Star 2 Online, Collection of Mana and Final Fantasy 8.

Eh, if they do a state of a play a month after E3 there’s no competition for what’s going to be spoken about etc, if they ain’t there then why risk overshadowing?

I get the last of us 2 and death stranding would have been hype anyways, but they aren’t new, if you get what I mean

True, but Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Avengers (2020) weren’t new titles either. We knew that they existed, it’s just that they finally showed us gameplay this year, and gave fans the sense of direction for those games.

If anything, they could have had the chance to dominate E3 by showcasing the gameplay for third party games that they exclusive marketing rights to, such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) and Avengers (2020). They also could have shown the comparison between current and next generation consoles, to drive the hype and interest for the PS5. Microsoft has already made me more interested in Project Scarlett than the PS5 (although I aim to get both), because they’ve shown footage of a game designed and running on said system (instead of using a current generation game just to highlight the load times like Sony did), and they talked a lot about backwards compatibility. Additionally, titles like Ghost of Tsushima are still a mystery to us, and I’m sure they have new games in development that, at the very least, they could have dropped a trailer for.

However, what you said also makes sense. They can do a State or Play anytime, and don’t necessarily have to do E3, thereby avoiding overshadowing, because they’re dominating the market in terms of console sales and third party marketing rights. Heck, Square Enix helped them by talking about the Final Fantasy 7 remake, which is currently exclusive to the PS4.

I hope Sony returns next year.

I’m sure they will, but if they came and just spoke about what we already know everyone here would be saying they “lost”, they made the right call

I think I read somewhere that apparently they use Just Dance for physical therapy at a lot of hospitals and clinics, and the Wii is their preferred console for this.

So did Kojima do anything to promote Death Stranding at E3? Did anyone talk about it to tell us what the gameplay and story are going to be like? Everyone keeps hyping up this game, but I find it hard to get hyped up for something I know jack shit about.

    1. Catan? As in Settlers of Catan?

    2. Jesus, half of that list are ports and remasters. Like The Witcher III? Seriously Nintendo? That game is going to be five years old next year, everyone that wanted to play it already did so on the other systems. Not to mention I doubt it is going to be able to look as grand on the Switch as it did on the PS4. RE5 and RE6? Yes, let's give the Switch not only two of the worst games in the main series, but also the two that are more than a decade old. Why not do RE2 or RE7 instead? You know, something more relevant and from THIS generation instead of the last? Alien Isolation? Why? Not that it was a bad game, but why?

    3. What is Cadence of Hyrule?

    4. I thought No More Heroes III already came out? Jim Sterling did an entire rant on the game due to it being utter and complete shit. Or did they decide to go back and remake the game due to it being garbage?

Now I've really got nothing against ports or anything, it's just that I'm still trying to find a reason to actually buy a Switch since Metroid Priime 4 isn't going to be out for who knows how long (hell, it could miss this generation entirely at this rate) and while I do want to play BotW and Mario Odyssey, it's hard for me to justify saving up money for a Switch just for those two (well 3 with the upcoming BotW sequel) games.

What we know about Death Stranding is that it’s a third person action game and that it’s about building connections somehow. Sony had no E3 presence at all this year except from the multiplatform publishers.

I think that other No More Heroes game was some kind of spin off title while this is officially NMH3.

To add to this, I work in a lot of youth clubs and they get barely any funding, but all have seem to have a wii.
I’ve seen Just Dance used to get special needs kids exercising and excited about it like you wouldn’t believe, I think it’s great they still release this for the wii still.

JD also does gangbusters on the Wii - it's the popular platform for the title, which also means it rakes money in for Nintendo and more than covers the cost of keeping the Wii disc manufacturing going.

If anything, it's a testament to just how great the Wii concept really was/is. And I say this as somebody who absolutely hated the platform when it launched.

    1. Yes they announced that at an earlier direct I believe. (Can't exactly remember when it was) I believe all of that one companies board games are coming to the Switch at some point in virtual form. Settlers of Catan is the first one to do such.

    2. Oh, don't be so negative! The Switch is only 2 years old. The Ps4 had the same problem it's first few years I believe.

    3. It's an indie game that combines the gameplay (and characters) of the developers previous music-and-timing-based RPG game Crypt of the Necrodancer with ALTTP-like Zelda themes, settings, and stories. It's essentially a Hyrule Warriors-level gameplay Zelda crossover and I believe the first time the Zelda series has ever crossed-over with an indie game.

    4. Nope! What came out was a Switch exclusive Spin-off called Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. The game recently announced is a full-on sequel to NMH 1 and 2 and has yet to come out.

I think the Wii’s main problem (other than the hardware and graphical limitations) is that it’s just not sustainable as a main console. It makes much more sense as an add on to an existing console. Still, it’s great to hear that it can be used to genuinely improve people’s lives
