I prefer the Iron Factory design, but this guy looks pretty good as well.

So in the video he needed a screwdriver and a bottle opener for the first four or five steps of transformation (maybe more- I stopped after there). I'm starting to have doubts about this. Especially as a nail biter. Wondering whether I might invest the money in the Iron Factory Shockers instead.

Could just be a stiff new figure. I have not watched the video... My other dinos are loosening up some since i first got them.

Grimlock looks good, better than the first picture we saw of his bot mode.
Looks to have smooth ankle tilts and also outward arm movement is good. Of course not having the amazing head movement and waist ritation of the Warbotron.

Yea, but Warbotron Grimlock's head doesn't get hidden in robot mode.

The DX9 one is a marvel of modern transformer engineering.

Have to say, looking at the photos in The Chosen Prime's facebook post this afternoon of the test shots, these last two designs in their dino modes look kind of "phoned in" compared to the first three. Wonder why they took so long when they look the least impressive.

Perhaps the mismatched yellow spine plate colors and the one-piece TRex arms/hands are just placeholders and the final product will look better?

They're also missing chrome, which I personally prefer to do without but doesn't help them look like a unified team/set when two of the others have it and these don't. Maybe just not included on the test shots though.

Kinda agree. Not much detail--especially around the chest and sides of Grim's dino mode--especially, as you say, in comparison with the first three.

Another thing -- anyone know what's up with the yellow piece in the middle of Grimlock's translucent chest piece? Is there some precedent for that that I'm unaware of?

Hi Everyone, I just want to take a moment to point out something that I feel has been greatly overlooked with this Dino Set. The engineering on each of these figures has defied conventional methods of transformation and in my opinion made some considerable upgrades to the "cleanliness" of the Dinobots. Kibble has been hidden and reduced in many cases and what they did with Grimlock is nothing short of revolutionary. As shown in the photos below, you will see the dino head and completely concealed in the chest cavity. Bravo DX9.... we need more innovation like this!

So greatly overlooked that it was mentioned at the bottom of page three and talked about for another page or so.

The innovative transformations are exactly why I love DX9's recent WIP efforts. They're just fantastic, IMO.

Looks like a really clever design! The yellow is really unsightly to me though, unfortunately.

Nice, i do really apreciate the great innovation dx9 often bring to their WIP toys. Mightron, Twofold both pretty impressive. Hulkie to me remains the pinnacle... Quaker is probably the most impressive dino the way they completely reinvented the transformation, Dx9 genius there. This on Grimlock is nice and he looks the more impressive of the 2 to be realesed transformation wise. The Dx9 will be my G1 legends Grimlock for sure but i think i will still hold Warbotron above this. Wish he had just a little sculpting on the inside wings.

Anyway i am all preordered, can't wait.

benscollectables provided a video yesterday that also showed that while DX9 did find a way to conceal the dinosaur head in robot mode, the dinosaur head also cannot turn in dinosaur mode... at all.

The lack of neck articulation on the dino mode is disappointing, but it doesn't seem like a victim of the innovative transformation—I feel like there was room to shove a swivel in there but they just opted against it.

You're probably right. But if u put it into perspective, had it been a full sized figure, voyager, MP or bigger, you cannot forgive a neck swivel like that since the spacing is much more accommodating.
But at the size they are now, you can forgive them for not including it.
