Blows the Kingdom Commander out of the water in my opinion, and for only an extra $15 or so ($105 for DX9 vs $90 for Hasbro).

Of course, it depends on which aesthetic you prefer, and if you want an all-in-one transformation or a separate trailer. I definitely like the all-in-one, since it gives more mass to the bot mode.

Recommend this guy 20/10. He was the last Rodimus / Hot Rod I added to the collection, and still my favorite take on classic Rodimus hands down. What he lacks in posability he more than makes up for in presence. And I seldom say that.

If I could place any major gripe besides the single-jointed elbows and knees, it's that the yellow paint on the flame decal is prone to rubbing. Mine already had a scratch when I got him, despite being a shelf queen.

Very different products for a different market.

THe Hasbro commander is a great figure and very suited for a classics collection. Likely the most accurate G1 Rodimus Prime there is (I consider the MP to be Hot Rod). Playability is likely better since you have the robot and the trailer that operate independently of each other. Personally I tossed the trailer in a box since I don't care about it, but you can have the car or robot around while the battle platform does it thing. Posability is good, but transformation can be a bit involved.

DX9 Carry is likely one of my favourite 3rd party figures and the Rodimus Prime I always wanted. However, it's slightly troublesome in that scalewise it's a MP, but the design is based on the Ox style (with the wrong colours) so it only fits in a non-cartoon MP line. Carry has a very fun transformation that simply leaves you stunned: you start with a truck the same size as the G1 truck and end up with a robot that's the size of MP Optimus, and at no time are you struggling or annoyed. And it's an all-in-one. (I dislike the targetmaster gun he comes with, but took a(n extra) MP riffle, cut one of the tabs and he holds it perfectly.) He looks like a Rodimus Prime that takes no shit.

I absolutely love both, but as said, they serve different purposes. Hasbro's fits in a collection better and has more playability, but Carry is more fun and a better stand alone piece.

Anyone have photos of this guy next to Maketoys' Headmasters or FT Hannibal?

I agree about the flame, might have to get a label over it, can't decide on Toyhax or ocean dry rubs though.
I think the new shade of orange makes the flame pop less compared to the the older deco.

On the whole (just to be fussy) I'd ike to just transfer the red from the new version to the old one.
I prefer the metalic dark grey legs and the oranges of the older one.
If it wasn't all pinned together I'd make some transplants.

There's something weird going on with this thread where it doesn't show up in the 3d party discussion forum. Anyone else catch that? Might be why I had trouble searching for this thread.

If you mean mp I own both, Carry doesn't fall apart and can hold a pose. While there's a scale difference in vehicle mode obviously this guys easily the superior figure. Definitely worth picking this bad boy up.

I picked up the Takara offering, thinking I was getting the "improved" version. No dice. I'm only saying this because I'm looking to pick up Carry.

FWIW, I think the official version does the vehicle mode the best, and he looks the best in robot mode. However, the thing is floppy and can't hold a pose without help. I'm getting both because I would like to line up MP-09 next to MP Ultra Magnus in vehicle mode (they look really good together), but have Carry as my "action" Rodimus (as I think he's the superior "figure", but not the better looking one, if that makes sense).

Also, someone needs to get on the horn and get a new MP Rodimus out there. Something that combines the look of the original with the greatness of DX9's.

@AlphaBass Assuming DX9 manufactures this reissue the same, no floppiness to be seen. He's a solid lad who poses buttery-smooth and has excellent range in the hips and ankles for some good, dynamic poses. Plus those nice hinged hands. Really, the elbows and the flame tampo are my only gripes, and he has good shoulder articulation and a bicep swivel, so you can still work around the arms for most poses. His plastic is high-quality, and has just enough diecast to weight him to a satisfying level but not hinder him in any way. It is placed so well that it was years before I picked him up one day and realized, "Hey, he's got metal in him!" I seriously cannot recommend him enough, especially compared to the oldest MPs.

Although I must give Hasbro its due credit for turning out a few Rodimus figures in recent years that look almost MP-worthy. The figures have come a long ways aesthetically and articulation-wise in such a short amount of time.

Was there a reissue of this guy recently? I had to sell mine off a while back and have been regretting it, but it's damn near impossible to find in Taiwan.

Yes, like "right now" is the reissue. (technically a repaint, but like 97% the same)

It does pop less, and almost blends in with the rest of the chest. They really should have outlined it.

Sorry, I just saw your question today. TBH everyone else has pretty much said the same thing I would have said org, so I love mine, horrible pin situation aside.

I still haven't heard back from the seller so I'm not sure what resolution to expect.

Pretty serendipitous that this reissue came just as I was looking for DX9 Carry for my Hot Rod collection. Looking forward to this guy arriving.

I received my reissue a couple of weeks ago and it's great, except the rifle. I switched out Carry's rifle with the rifle that came with POTP Rodimus Prime and I think it works much better. Carry's rifle doesn't look half bad with POTP Rodimus either. rod and rod_2.jpg

My Carry just arrived and he's pretty sweet. Chunky and solid. The rifle Targetmaster gimmick is novel but not well-executed but everyone knows that by now. I also found it more than slightly frustrating to transform at first because the instructions do the thing where they show arrows of parts moving but not the parts moving until the next step, making it unclear where the part is supposed to end up at first glance. Also the spoiler/truck panels can't just phase through the exhaust pipes like the instructions imply, so you have to really untab the front section just to get them up. (I got the same problem TBF)

Otherwise he's sweet. Chest flames aren't quite as washed out as the pics made them seem but I maintain a thin black outline would've done wonders. Might also paint the rims silver just to punch up the alt mode a bit.

EDIT: Well, this is a bummer. There's a little dent/warp right smack dab in the center of his face on the crest. It spoils what is otherwise a really great headsculpt. Gonna contact ShowZ to see if I can get a replacement half of the head. Normally I'd try and fix it myself but this area is painted and I doubt I could ever colour/finish match this particular burgundy.

That seems to be a common molding artifact, because mine has a similar blemish in the exact same spot, just not as pronounced as yours. And it shows up in a lot of the other photos posted so far. Does anyone have a "perfect" reissue without this flaw?

I bit the bullet and ordered him. Been hemming and hawing for about a year and the more I look at my MP-09, the more I wish he wasn't a good looking mess of a figure that you can only display in vehicle mode.
