Kind of odd they allowed that to start with. Any other company let people sell third party of their ip like that and keep the money? Most would say heck no!
Found the Beholder so now I only need the Owlbear. Compared to the dragons the Beholder is a mixed bag. The eye stalks are pretty terrible, with none of them being able to move much (which means 4 of them are always facing backwards). The face looks really good though, and might just be the highlight of the whole set so far. The purple wash really makes it stand out and the deep shiny purple in the mouth is suitably gross looking. Unfortunately the die mode is also not good. While you could roll the dragons around reasonably well the 19 and 20 sides of the Beholder are raises and bumpy, so it can never rest on those sides. Kind of a shame, really.
Neck’s Warduke is starting to show up on some online shops now. I can’t wait to see it in person. I wonder if they could get the license to make figures from the cartoon? Better sculpted and more detailed versions than the figures Hasbro is making. Also, why doesn’t Neca or some other decent company make figures of all of the monsters and crazy huge assortment of characters from D&D? I know we are getting Warduke and Grimsword along with (maybe) Strongheart and Zarak but that is a teeny, pitifully tiny sampling of the figures that should have already been made by this point in time. The fan base is humongous and a lot of the older fans have the money to spend. What gives?
I saw on Instagram that Super7 is going to be making D&D figures too. Just Reaction for now. Apparently their focus is going to be on figures based on the cover artwork for the novels.
I was thinking the same thing. Grimsword is amazing and warduke will probably be an awesome figure too. Maybe they’re just so bogged down with TMNT and other stuff? I don’t hate the aliens line, but I’ve noticed that stuff is sitting HARD at all of my local targets now. Maybe that fan base is satisfied with what’s been done? Idk. Could be a chance for them to shift focus to other properties now. Just guesses
That would be awesome. I want to see atax, O’Malley, Kenner Vasquez in green, and integer 3. I’d also like to see more unproduced stuff like infantry predator, deep sea predator, the other marines and the female predator also
I love the Alien franchise as a whole, but the only things I really wanted are a good generic Xeno, Bishop and Ripley in her panties. I got “Big Chap”…waiting for a Bishop reissue…and have come to the conclusion that Malibu Ripley isn’t happening. Lol. I just settled for Movie 1 Ripley with the flamethrower and the cat crate.
My interest for the Alien franchise has always been the Aliens and the APC, Dropship, and Powerloader.
That and they were monetizing via sales of the core books. Keep in mind that this was pre-digitization. Since then, it's been very easy to sell PDFs and replicate the system in virtual gaming services like RollD20. Smalltime publishers wouldn't be affected. All in all, the new OGL was aimed at the bigger publishers like Kobold Press and Paizo, alongside the virtual services as WotC is investing in their own digital tabletop platform. It makes a lot of sense (moreso when you see it from a legal standpoint in protecting the IP in court) but that didn't sit well with some in the community, especially where original product ideas that use the 5e D20 system could be plucked by WotC for their own use. WotC gave a half-apology and said they'd roll back 75% of what the fans were complaining about. But the publishers weren't innocent either. They basically riled up a mob and started a digital riot while announcing their own open source game (which they seemingly had in their back pocket for just this occasion). After all, never let a good crisis go to waste, right? In the end, the players are the ones getting played by all companies involved. The best thing to do is, if you're fan of DnD, just keep playing. If you're not, then find an RPG that suits you better. But don't flip the table just because a publisher is having a hissy fit that won't affect you in particular because then you're just a guy in a mob.
I cringe whenever I hear Super7 mentioned now because there's a 50/50 chance it means limited articulation and a huge price tag. Although, in this case I supposed that can't have any more limited articulation then what Hasbro gave us with these figures already.
D&D Beyond To Require $30 Per Player Per Month According To Leak (msn.com) And here's Hasbro's new rumored shot across the bow. If they can't raise the cash flow through publishers, they'll do it through the players. Probably not the best reaction, Hasbro, as this will definitely move players away from the service. I use physical books and play in person, so it's no big deal for me. But this will hit the online community hard.
Maybe I’ll finally get some Dragonlance figures. Holy shit. Dragonlance was the first series of novels I ever read in my life.
It is 3.75" 5 POA Reaction for now. So less articulation than Hasbro but a lot less breakage. Wouldn't be shocked if they announced Ultimates with some kind of "vintage media" license including old books, old video games, old comics. Particularly if The Golden Archive isn't going much past the movie.
Just give me these guys! I have a set of Ral Partha minis I painted when I was a teenager. I’d really like to have a set in 6”.
Actually, their plastic is highly breakable. The "Targetmaster" for Ultimates Banzai-Tron took a 6 foot tumble off the bookshelf onto CARPET and shattered one of the arms. I was like...seriously?
That's not made out of the same material as Reaction, is it? My impression is that Reactions are much sturdier than Ultimates, as most simple 5 POA figures are sturdier than more articulated figures and their accessories.
