Keep in mind that when this series aired D&D had a dubious reputation. The game was a major hit but did have some controversy. This will sum it up a little: How Dungeons & Dragons became a part of the 1980s Satanic Panic
I am all the way in!!! I would buy a Haslab Tiamat in a second! It’s so revered because of the time it was released and it’s just fun and charming fantasy. They need to finish the main cast with Sheila, Eric and Presto first. I hope we at least get Shadow Demon, Dekion, Warduke, Strongheart, Orc soilders, Bullywugs, Kelek, Hooked Horrors, Silvermane, Direwolves and The Beholder. What would be even more awesome is if Hasbro let Neca make their ultimate versions of the cartoon characters after Hasbro finishes making the regular versions. So excited for these!!!
I'm so in. Ordered all of them. I wish Shadow Demon was included in the Venger/DM pack. Super stoked.
It would be cool if each character came with D&D stats so you could play them in the game. Just needs to be printed on a small piece of paper. I'm sure someone at WOTC could knock it out in an afternoon.
There was a supplement included with the DVD set using 3.5 that has all the character sheets. You can go here online for a download: https://usermanual.wiki › ...PDF Animated Series Handbook - UserManual.wiki Or Google search - official dungeons and dragon handbook of the animated series.
Ooooo you make a tempting argument. The HISS tank is the phenomenon I didn’t know I needed. This D&D line is a dream I’ve always wanted. The two are tied
I just had a strange thought. Obviously, we all want generic creatures. Hasbro has plans for an Honor Among Thieves 6" line. There's at least one more wave of cartoon figures coming. However, beyond some of the iconic creatures, I am not sure which characters would have name recognition at retail. Drizzt has been something of an under appreciated figure despite appearing in dozens of NY Times bestsellers. The 2000 movie and its spinoffs are not worth touching. Critical Role is its own thing and in a deal with McFarlane. What if they inked deals with famous D&D players and used photoreal tech for likenesses? You could get Stephen Colbert, David Harbour (as Kenny Kaboom), Karen Gillen, Jon Favreau, Gerard Way, Deborah Ann Woll, Vin Diesel, Patton Oswalt... maybe a couple of waves based on the 2 Community episodes?
It probably will not sell well and Hasbro would have to pay a likeness fee. Until reading your message I did not know these people released content about playing a game. The way Hasbro should build this brand is by opening up the monster manual and release monsters, basically do what Mythic Legion is/has done. Produce quality figures, some with soft goods and there is a roughly 50 years worth of fan base that would probably buy the product.
Was on the fence about the Gelatinous Cube but now that I’ll have an Eric to stick in there it’s preordered
Not to mention there's a plethora of novels with popular characters tied to campaign settings that they could mine from.
Re: Tiamat. Given that it's likely as a Haslab and Hasbro has Golden Archive coming out next year... Maybe they could do a realistic look and make animated inspired heads a tier.
So... Apparently... Spoiler The kids from the animated D&D are in the Chris Pine movie coming out next year as a rival adventuring party. Apparently this was in the SDCC footage shown. No word on other cameos but I wouldn't be shocked to see Tiamat, Drizzt, or Warduke.
