Dumb question but did the film explain what happened with Galvatron?

Nor did it explain how Barricade came back to life.
Nor how Bumblebee suddenly spawned a voice box.
Nor why Bumblebee was a fierce warrior back in WW2 but acts like he's barely fought anyone in TF1.
    And the list goes on...

It's probably best that it didn't to be honest.

It would have resulted in too much expositional baggage from the last film.

This film had 10 minutes of exposition...30 seconds at the beginning and 10 minutes in the middle from Anthony Hopkins. At a nearly 3 hour running time, I think four or five extra minutes wouldn't have hurt.

Yeah, but that exposition was actually relevant to this film's plot and the movies going forward.

It's better not to dwell on specific plot points from three years ago that everyone has forgotten. We know he's Megatron, just get on with it.

Then why make this movie a sequel at all? Seriously, it's like killing Kenny and then Kenny shows up in the next episode like it never happened. That's a GAG...it's not supposed to happen in movies that actually take itself seriously.

inexcusable to not even mention how galvy became mega again in my opinion.

same goes for just having barricade pop up in the same city he was supposedly killed in looking completely different without even a throwaway line as to why that's the case.

same goes for bee's silly new powers

all 3 of these issues could have been fixed with 3 lines of dialogue totaling maybe 20 seconds of screen-time

Yeah, I wish the film acted more like a sequel given that's what it was supposed to be.

    They either should have

    1)Kept Megatron as Galvatron

    OR

    2) Shown or explained the transition.

I think he was given a new body by Quintessa because of that red scar. But the movie didn't even try to explain any of this so...

Shocker... more shit that goes completely unexplained in one of these movies?? No. Way.

Why is Galvatron now Megatron? Sshhh... don't worry about it. Hey, how come Bumblebee is a fucking Iron Man puzzle suit now?? Sshhh... don't worry about it. Huh, why are two of the Wreckers now one bot with a new name?? Sshhh... don't worry about it. Where did Characters X, Y and Z go and/or come from?? Sshhh... don't worry about it.

Par for the course, and just more continuity defunct open ends that people have been asking about for 4 movies since 2009.

It would have confused the majority of the audience. Megatron was reincarnated in the last film and he's back in this one, albeit with a new form and proper transformation. It's not really relevant to the story so I do think it's better to just move on from it. At best they could have alluded to it briefly.

I'm more annoyed about the massive contradictions with 'the creators': now 'a creator' and nothing like what was seen / described in AOE. That seems like a much bigger deal. The Megatron thing is petty in comparison to that.

To be fair, we never saw Barricade actually die. He obviously escaped. As for Bumblebee, hopefully we'll see something in the spin off movie about why he didn't fight well at first. Maybe he got damaged or decided he didn't like fighting.

Or how Megatron can transform in the conventional way again rather than how he transformed as Galvatron in Age of Extinction.

More importantly I don't understand why I even still give a shit.

Oh my god :rolleyes2  Really? He "obviously escaped"? So he completely disappeared from TF1 with no explanation despite being one of THE central Cons in that movie, shows up in the background during the big battle in DOTM, disappears again, somewhere along the lines decides to completely re-design himself into a new bot virtually unrecognizable from his former look, and then pop again two movies later? Yeah that sounds like it makes sense. Had nothing at all with Bay just forgetting they had another character to use in TF1 or ran out of budget to properly include him, ILM using stock renders of his character model to stick into DOTM for sake of more background Cons, or Bay/ILM deciding they want "bad police car guy" back for the new movie but make him look totally new for 100% zero reason other than "we can". Okay.

Not sure why you're having so much trouble with this. Transformers change bodies & get upgrades all the time, always have in almost every series. Did they explicitly show what happened to Jetfire at the end of Armada? But how did he come back with a new body in Energon?! And again in Cybertron? The soldiers took down Barricade at the end of DOTM but he was just assumed dead, there was no on screen confirmation like we usually get with dead Cons.

Except there was ten years between Armada and Energon, and Energon was terrible. If you have to use Energon as a defense, clearly there's something wrong here.

If these movies actually treated the Transformers as real characters with subplots and history, it would've just been logical to at least mention it, if not show it in flashback. A quick scene of Barricade explaining to anyone in particular how he's rebuilt himself after his near-death, with a flashack of him dragging himself away in Chicago would be plenty to explain that at least this character is the same guy and that he survived to limp away. Like seven seconds total to at leats acknowledge it. To almost anybody who gives a shit about these movies enough to follow the plot, they would've just assumed he died in Chicago. (like eveyrone on TFW did before TLK came out)

Because honestly, Barricade could be an entirely different character in this than the original for all we know. He never mentions anything from the previous trilogy, and doesn't have any character or personality to speak of.

Any other film wouldn't have even considered this, it would've just happened naturally. When a character returns from what seems like death, you usually mention the how and why. Or at least mention that they've returned. This movie acts like this is the first time we've ever seen Barricade.

But these movies aren't supposed to be on the same low intellectual level of those terrible cartoons you just referenced as some absurd comparison. Not explaining key things in MOVIES is actually quite a big deal. If it wasn't, then there wouldn't be these endless "so, what the fuck...?" threads over & over & over & over & over again after each new movie comes out. People want AND expect answers & explanations that are official and not some fanwank excuse that people dream up to help make sense of things.
